The Washington County SPCA shelter is an independent non-profit (501c3) organization that takes in ALL local cats and dogs, regardless of health, breed, age, etc. and exists solely on the donations of our generous and caring supporters. We are not affiliated with nor receive funding from Washington County or national organizations. We are the community's ONLY open access shelter, and we offer low-

cost spay/neuter vouchers, and collaborate with other animal assistance groups to actively promote suitable animal adoptions and transports.

You give Paprika a bone and think she’s about to enjoy it… 🐾

Nope.

Paprika says, “I’ll save this for later.” …and she means it. Every. Single. Time.

She trots straight to the yard, finds a spot along the perimeter, and carefully buries her treasure. Same routine. No random digging. No yard destruction. Just one very intentional little hideaway. 💛

Maybe it’s for a rainy day.
Maybe it’s her secret stash of happiness.
Or maybe… she’s leaving tiny gifts for a friend who could use a smile.

It’s thoughtful. It’s adorable. It’s so Paprika. She finds joy in the little things, comfort in her routines, and somehow makes even the simplest moments feel special.

Now she just needs a home where her quirks are loved, her treasures are safe, and her routine can continue, fence line and all. 🏡✨

How are we supposed to get any work done around here?! 😅📄🐾

Sebastian has officially claimed the desk, the paperwork… and honestly, our attention too. Important documents? Perfect nap spot. Deadlines? Clearly not as important as head scratches.

This handsome guy is almost 6 years old and ready to take over a home of his own (preferably one with less paperwork and more lounging space). If you’re looking for a laid-back “supervisor” who will keep you company—and occasionally sit directly on your to-do list—Sebastian is your guy.

Kitten season is here… 🐾🍼

In just two days, we’ve taken in 11 kittens, and this is only the beginning.

First, thank you to our incredible fosters — past, present, and future. We truly couldn’t do this work without you. The shelter is no place for these fragile little lives, and foster homes give them the chance to survive and thrive. One of our rockstar fosters (who never hesitates to step up!) currently has 25 kittens in their care. Twenty-five. 🫶 We would be lost without people like them.

Which brings us to something important…

🎉 Our Annual Kitten Shower is coming April 18th! 🎉
Just like a baby shower, we’ll be collecting much-needed supplies to care for the 600 kittens expected to come through our doors this year. Keep an eye out — more details coming soon!

And of course… all these tiny faces won’t stay tiny forever. 🐱💕
They will eventually be available for adoption, and every adoption includes:
✔️ Up-to-date vaccinations
✔️ Spay/neuter surgery

WOW… what a turnout! 🎉🐾

Bingo Night was absolutely packed, and our hearts are so full. Thank you to everyone who showed up ready to play, laugh, snack, sip, and support the animals. We loved seeing the room filled with so much community. 🩵❤

This event wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing volunteers, staff, and board members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes (and all night long!) to make everything run smoothly—from setup to cleanup and everything in between.

Huge thanks to those who donated delicious baked goods and creative gift baskets for our auctions, and to our generous sponsors who helped make the night such a success. It truly takes a village, and we felt that in every moment.

And let’s not forget the star of the night… Pearl! 🐶 She made her rounds, greeted so many new friends, and soaked up all the attention like the social butterfly she is. She’s still available and would love to keep the party going in a forever home!

Hey there, I’m Pebbles! Fresh from the bath and feeling like a million bucks. But trust me, the real magic isn’t the clean fur… it’s the easygoing, go-anywhere, love-everyone personality underneath. 💙

I’m 1 year old, which basically means I’ve got energy for DAYS and a personality to match. My schedule is pretty packed: run, play, chase ball, repeat… with snack breaks, obviously. 🍪

Looking for a jogging partner? I’m already stretching.
Got a yard or love the outdoors? Even better.
Have a ball? Say less. 🎾

I’m still polishing my leash skills, but I’m a smart guy and I listen well. I just need someone consistent to help me be my best self. I’m respectful with food and happy to share space… as long as you understand I may inhale my treats at record speed. 😅

Adopted… and back again. 💔

Last week, we celebrated.
This week, they’re back in their kennels.

🐾 “Lil” John came in as a stray, so much of his story is still unknown. But what we do know is he’s a happy little snuggle bug, great with other dogs, and impossible not to love. He was returned through no fault of his own.

🐾 “Big Ol” Buster lost his owner suddenly when they passed and he ended up with us. He’s a gentle giant, affectionate couch potato who loves other dogs, needs to eat by himself, and MUST have a cat-free home.

We truly believed last week was their happy ending.
We pictured couches, soft beds, names on tags… forever.

Two good dogs.
Two broken “almost” stories.

Please help us get it right this time. 🙏

Let's try this again! 💔

KRAMER IS A HUSKY!

Which means he is:
✔️ Intelligent
✔️ Independent
✔️ Selective
✔️ And yes—prone to anxiety if his needs aren’t met

Kramer was adopted and returned for escaping and struggling when left alone.

That’s not failure.
That’s information.

So here’s the full picture:
He’s about 2.5 years old, 60 pounds, neutered, and fully up to date on vaccines.
One blue eye, one brown. Absolutely stunning.

Fetch is his favorite thing on earth.
Walks? Even better.
Treats? Meh.
Your attention? That’s everything.

He knows his basic commands.
He just might be a bit stubborn.
He’s people selective—because not everyone is his person.

Kramer needs an experienced home.
Not a first-time “let’s see how this goes” situation.
Because in the right home?
Dogs like Kramer don’t just succeed, they thrive.

The best dogs aren’t always the easiest… but they’re worth it. Help us find his person.
