Puma came in for her first ever grooming appointment. At 6 months old she should have already been desensitized to the grooming process. When looking to bring home a puppy, be sure to look for an ETHICAL breeder, who strives for the betterment of the breed. Proper health testing is necessary to give pups the best chance of being a good representation of their breed in health, appearance, and temperament. Also, good breeders are going to make sure their pups have been exposed to all kinds of experiences to ensure they are comfortable around new smells, sounds, environments, as well as being handled by a Veterinarian and Groomer. If a breeder doesn't take the time needed to set your puppy up for success then there's a good chance you could have behavioral issues as your puppy grows, which can cause a lot of stress for you as well as your pup.
Puma's Foster Mom understands the importance of early exposure so even though Puma didn't have the proper exposure earlier in her life, her Mom wants to make sure she gets as much as she can now.
Standing on a table for a full groom is hard on a puppy, especially if this is their first time. So, we focused on giving Puma the opportunity to experience every step of the grooming process for as long as she was willing. The idea is to make grooming as stress free as possible so that she will be more and more comfortable with longer exposure until the day we can finally give her a full groom without any problems.
