I’m working to get things set up for round two of our Trail Obstacle Clinic, tomorrow. Hoping we can get it in before the rain! If you are a participant, you will hear from me by 7:30, if it looks like the rain is coming in. I get two different forecasts on my apps, so it’s anyone’s guess.

Remember, auditors are welcome ($20). There’s room for another participant, if you’re feeling froggy and want to join us.
We start at 9 am. Lunch is included!

Productive morning of lessons and working horses. Had our friends Karen out to help with some specific training with Flower. Because of the nature of this issue, she’s got to be okay with having her eyes doctored every day. Karen used to train zoo animals, using target training, and behavior modification (or conditioning). Her eye was very painful so she didn’t want it touched. I was happy with her progress today and have plenty of homework to do so that this is as low stress and easy as possible, for both of us.

Got to hack out on my favorite Mustang friend, today. Practiced working a couple gates. He’s a good boy. The wild flowers were stunning. There was a breeze. Just good for the soul. Also got to enjoy great company, too.

I’m amazed by all the buzz over the bridleless competition. Seems everyone’s jumping right in, and wants to ride their horse just like that. Here’s a news flash. It won’t happen without one thing happening first. I’m even going to tell you what that one thing is. You’re probably not going to like it. Here goes. You need to learn to ride better WITH a bridle. Learn to use clear and concise aids, so your horse knows what you’re asking until you truly feel you can just take that bridle right off and nothing will change. It takes HOURS and hours of dedication and hard work. Anybody should be able to ride a well trained horse without a bridle on its face, but the reality is most people can barely lead their horse from point A to point B very well. So, if you really want to learn how to ride your horse without a bridle, it’s going to take becoming a much better rider, overall. I’m totally down to help you reach that goal. Just remember you’re going to need to do the work, put in the time, and, probably, learn to lead better too. You might even find, at the end of it all, that you don’t need those spurs either. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Spent some time with Flower today. Just groomed her and took her tail down and washed it. Her tail has the same color fade as her body. Just gorgeous color on this girl.

Thank you everyone who has messaged and commented and checked in on this girl! I needed a little time to get my head around this diagnosis. What we are dealing with is not something that’s seen in Morgan’s very often. Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU or Moon Blindness) is more commonly seen in Appaloosa horses or horses with particular genetics. Because of that, we are looking into causes that might be underlying. Our vet came out today to get blood. We’re running a tick panel, CBC and Leptospirosis test. If something comes up there we have to treat that as well. She sees the specialist, at OSU, on June 29. With her positive response to the meds she’s on (both in the eye and oral), she may be a candidate for a relatively new treatment. It involves an implant called a suprachoroidal cyclosporine implant. That’s a device implanted in the scleral flap of the eye. It would emit a dose of immunosuppressant drugs that may, at least, manage the flares for a while, and improve her quality of life. These flares are very painful. She gets super depressed, doesn’t want to eat well, and gets very irritable. So, right now, the meds, the vet prescribed, have helped her with that and she’s back to her sweet self.

For reference, this is the third flare she’s had since February. The first two didn’t really raise red flags as they were a couple of months apart and it has been windy right before them so we thought she just had some debris in her eye. It got better each time because the meds had a steroid in them and that’s an effective treatment, temporarily. Now she’s on a steroid only, in the eye, and oral anti-inflammatory.

I really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers for my girl. This is not an easy or inexpensive road, but I’m committed to doing everything I possibly can to help her. Meanwhile, I’m waiting on the most expensive UV mask I’ve ever bought to arrive. 🤪

As a side note, I noticed a lump on the right side of her neck about two months ago. Now there’s an indentation. It just appeared about a week ago. There’s an old legend about the prophet’s mark on horses. I’ll post a link in the comments, if you want to read more, but let’s just say, I don’t think the timing of it appearing is coincidence. Legend says horses that bear this mark are exceptional. Cassie also had one. Brownie did, as well. The two best horses I’ve ever known bore that mark. So, there you have it. ❤️❤️

I’m starting to figure out that when it says “20% chance” that’s us. 😊

Always something we can do, even if it’s a muddy mess. We need the rain so much!

Loaded up my sweet girl, Flower, and headed to the vet today. We did not get good news. I’m not even sure what to do right now, except pray that we can slow or stop what might happen. If you think about it, please say a prayer for her and that we can get her eye healed. 🙏🏼

When you have a baby horse that’s just a clean slate, it’s pretty amazing what they’ll offer, with just a tiny ask. ❤️❤️ My Faerie Dragon!
