ASR’s Spring BLOOMBOX Fundraiser

BloomBox is a local online garden center that sells perennials, planted containers, shrubs, trees, bagged soil and mulch, herbs and veggies, hanging baskets, and more. You will order these things online via their website and they will deliver them byhand, right to your home!

When you order your plants from BloomBox between May 1and May 31, they will donate 15% of your purchase amount directly to ASR – provided ASR’s special code is used in your order. ASR is so excited about this fundraiser because it’s an easy way for ASR to earn money, and all of you have the opportunity to purchase beautiful spring plants, have it delivered, and support a local business at the same time. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Sad news .......BlackJack ( known as Jack Bauer ) passed away recently .

Jack was adopted in 2012 by a wonderful woman and long time GSD rescue person.

Jack was a very special case as he came to ASR with a heinous injury--one eye socket was caved in and there was no eye visible, he was presumed he was blind .

This was thought to be from abuse 😞

Surgery was done to fix the crushed orbital area and it was discovered his eye was present and functional.....a real miracle.

Jack traveled all over with his adopter and her family and was her beloved companion & family member .
Sadly , last year the adopter passed away and Jack lived with her son.

It's almost been a year since mom's passing and today is the hardest day yet as I had to lay Jack Bauer to rest yesterday. He was doing great and just about to be 13 but he was having problems getting up yesterday. I decided to take him to the ER vet and they discovered that he was anemic and found a cancerous mass that had leaked blood into his abdomen. The Dr said a blood transfusion and surgery may give him a few more months but I didn't want to risk it or be selfish. Myself the family spent 3 more hours with him along with bbq and bones. Fluids given made him perk up immensely but he was still too weak to stand. I held him for those final hours and he was surrounded by love and warmth. I am devastated but that comes with the territory of wonderful dogs. Jack and I bonded the moment mom brought him home to me. I am having him cremated and will spread his ashes along with mom's at a later date. I know that he is with her now .
I renamed him Jack Bauer from his initial Blackjack name since he was such a tough and special guy.
I moved him and mom with me to California in 2015 then to Texas in 2017.

Run free Jack ! You were loved immensely .

Such a terrible loss to the Rescue Community💔.
And what a hero , died trying to save his beloved rescue cats .....😢.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗢

Guardians of Rescue is shocked and deeply saddened at the death of long-time friend and tireless animal advocate, Chris Arsenault, who founded the Happy Cat Sanctuary in Long Island. Chris dedicated his life to saving vulnerable cats and he gave his life doing the same as a deadly fire raged through the sanctuary, which also took the lives of more than 100 of his treasured cats. It is an indescribable loss to the rescue and wider community that is difficult to come to terms with.

Guardians of Rescue helped Chris build his first outdoor cat enclosure, and in the decades since, we assisted him with the most complex cruelty cases he worked on that required intervention and resolution that saw the cats being left alone, or brought safely to Chris' sanctuary. The photos below are from one of many favorite memories - back in 2011, when a sweet cat was showing his love for Chris (left) and our own Robert Misseri at the sanctuary; following a long night but successful end to a horrible situation where cats were being poisoned in a neighbor dispute.

Guardians is working closely with board of Happy Cat Sanctuary, Strong Island Animal Rescue, Lisa Jaeger and all others helping - giving our full support and assistance in the aftermath of this devastating tragedy. We'll share new information as it comes in.

ASR Pup-date!!! Max 💙... (fka Maxie)
From Max's mom..... "Max is the one of the best dogs we have ever owned and we love him to pieces 💓. His favorite person in the house is his 5 year old human sister 👧, he follows her everywhere and always has his eye on her 👀. His favorite things to do are play fetch, wrestle with his K9 sister, watch all the neighborhood kids play together, and lay perfectly in the way of where you need to be in the house 😂!
Max has brought a new sense of appreciation into our lives and loves everyone he meets. Thank you ASR for the sweetest boy! "
