Does your GSD have EPI ?

Sharing: calling all GSD people, please share and let's get the samples needed to complete this study... it helps your breed and people you know who have the breed!!!

I happened to be in touch with UGA (University of Georgia) again recently in regards to their mega and EPI (Exocrine Pacreatic Insufficiency) research they are doing for German Shepherd Dogs. One of the researchers mentioned they still need 40 more dogs for the CONTROL GROUP for EPI in GSD's and 20 dogs that are AFFECTED by EPI.

For the CONTROL group: They need 40 GSD's over the age of 6 - unrelated in the last 3 generations (ie can't submit mother at 11 and daughter at 7) They can't have stomach related issues but they can have other issues - like arthritis or pannus etc......

For the AFFECTED group: They need 20 GSD's with diagnosed EPI.

I am hoping you would be willing to forward this on to others you may know to who may be willing to help out to get those last 40 dogs needed for the control group on the EPI study or who may have a dog affected by EPI that would be willing to help.

They will pay for blood samples to be overnighted to them (both purple and red top tubes - 3 ml's each I think) - they provide fedex labels so they can be shipped - and as a thank you they will send cTLI values (serum tryosin-like immunoreactivity) to individuals who submit (it takes a few months to get it since they do it in batches) ... Most vets will donate the blood draw collection when they know it is going to research.

We all love our beloved breed and while it doesn't affect any of us - I am hoping we can help those it does affect to make a difference for breeders in the future...

Please welcome the lovely Minka to All Shepherd Rescue!

This lovely girl found herself at the shelter through no fault of her own and in danger -because as is the case everywhere, the shelter was severely overcrowded. 😢

Minka is affectionate , friendly with dogs and really just wants to be a Velcro dog with her person.🥰
