December is National Cat Lover's Month and of course…we adore cats! Cats are very special creatures and comen in all shapes and sizes! These wild animals (that live in our homes!) bring so much love and laughter to our lives, and in honor of this special month we asked around the office: what's everyone's favorite thing about cats?
Here's what the staff had to say:
🐾 They're cats. We love everything about them!
🐾 They slowly blink to show that they love us
🐾 Soft, fluffy cheeks
🐾 The iconic loaf
🐾 When the biscuit factory is open for business!
🐾 The scratchy sandpaper tongue
🐾 The primordial pouch!
🐾 They love us in their own special way!

What makes you a cat lover?! 🐱

Attached are all of our kitties for your viewing pleasure 💙

Meet Charlie, a Frenchie with one less eye but just as cute. Charlie came to Open Door last week after being a car crash that resulted in his eye being damaged beyond repair. With the help from donors to the Stay Together Fund, we were able to provide Charlie the surgery he desperately needed. Every day there are cases like Charlie and every penny makes a difference! THANK YOU to everyone who makes this possible! 🐾💙🐾

Now presenting... Pet of the Month! 🐱🐶 We love all of the amazing animals who come thru our doors and want to recognize them. Therefore, we will now be accepting photos of your pet via text or email and then every month we will randomly choose a pet to be featured as Pet of the Month(they’ll be posted on Facebook and at the front desk). All we ask from you if your pet is chosen is a short blurb about them! PS you’ll also get a discount for your appointment if you’re chosen 💙 🐾 💙
Our first Pet of the Month is one of our assistant’s chihuahua…BEAN!

Holidays are quickly approaching and one of the best parts is the food…but our pets can’t have all the delicious treats we can. We wanted to remind our pet guardians that our pets should not be given table scraps due to the risk of pancreatitis(which causes diarrhea and vomiting) as well as irritation to the stomach and intestines(which can also cause vomiting and diarrhea). However there are some safe holiday foods! Examples includes…
🦃 green beans
🌲 pure pumpkin
🦃 carrots
🌲 pet specific treats!
If you have a question about if a food is safe for your dog or cat give us a call/text at 828-417-7768 🦃🌲

We recently had the pleasure of providing Rylee's final puppy vaccines! 🐾💉🐶 Vaccines protect our pets from potentially deadly diseases. If you have a puppy(or kitten) and would like to schedule them for a visit give us a call/text at 828-417-7768 or email us at [email protected] ! 🐾💙🐾

November is Diabetes Awareness Month! Although diabetes is best known in humans, our pets can also get this disease. In honor of the sweet babies with this condition we've compiled some facts about diabetes and resources for diabetic pets. 🐾💉🐾

🐾 Diabetes is a metabolic condition where the body can't use sugar normally

🐾 Diabetes can occur in dogs and cats but dogs most often have type 1 diabetes(the pancreas does not produce insulin, which is what helps the body absorb sugar) whereas cats most often have type 2(the body is resistant to insulin).

🐾 Signs of diabetes can include(but are not limited to) excessive drinking/urination, weight loss, increased appetite, lethargy, changes in behavior/energy. If your pet is experiencing any of these signs give us a call to schedule an appointment to chat with one of our veterinarians!

🐾 Diabetes can be a cost-intensive condition but we are grateful for nonprofits like the Bobo Fund which has programs such as the Senior Dog Medication Assistance Program which helps with the cost of prescriptions for senior dogs with conditions like arthritis, diabetes and heart disease. Other ways to make management of diabetes more accesible are buying bulk syringes, prescription coupons, or monitoring at home with urine strips and handheld blood glucose monitors(but this does require a relationship with your vet to help).

If you'd like to chat more about diabetes in animals, give us a call(828-417-7768), text(same number) or email([email protected]) and we'll get you scheduled with one of our veterinarians! 🐾💙🐾
