🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
Pickles McButterpants has left the building… and headed straight into his forever home! 🐾💛

Pickles came to us as a stray on 12/6/24 and spent 252 days waiting patiently for this moment. Thanks to our amazing fosters, volunteers, and staff who cheered him on, gave him love, and shared his story, Pickles is finally HOME. 🏡✨

His new family is already head-over-heels for him (and yes — they’re keeping his fantastic name 😍).

💛 Friday Gratitude Spotlight: VCA Charities 💛
Food insecurity affects all members of the family — pets included. Thanks to a generous grant from VCA Charities, AWLA was able to provide over 375 lbs of Hill’s Pet Nutrition dry food last week at local affordable housing properties — feeding 94 cats and 76 dogs from 85 households. 🐾

This support ensures that pets stay healthy and loved, right where they belong — with their families.

Almost 10 years old and full of heart, Perry is one of our Super 8 heroes waiting for his forever sidekick. With his movie-star looks, goofy charm, and world-class cuddle skills, Perry is the kind of dog who will stick by your side through it all. 💛

He’s been with AWLA since May — and unbelievably, has had no adoption interest yet. Perry may be too big to be a lap dog (don’t tell him that 😉), but this sweet boy is always ready for kisses, playtime with squeaky toys, and being your most loyal shadow.

This week’s Nice Pet crown goes to Nandi 👑 for being such a good walker and melting hearts with her sweet face. She’s treat-motivated, snuggly, and ready to be your loyal best friend for life! 💕🐶

Meanwhile, our Naughty Pet title goes to Oshi 😼—but only because he meows sadly when it’s bedtime. (We think he just wants extra cuddles 💌). This gentle sweetheart is all about cozy corners, slow blinks, and head bumps once he feels safe.

✨ Meet Maya, one of our Super 8 heroes ✨

At 10 years old, this gentle soul has been with AWLA on and off since 2019, and despite life’s ups and downs, her superpower shines brighter than ever: calming the storm. 💖

According to her foster, Maya’s days are filled with cozy couch naps, sunny balcony breaks, and happy tail wags for her favorite humans. She’s smart (she knows “sit” and “paw”), respectful, and brings a peaceful energy wherever she goes.

Maya proves that even after heartbreak, love and trust can always be renewed. She’s ready to share her snoozy charm — could you be her forever family? 🦸‍♀️🐾

✨ Happy Tail: Carl’s Journey Home ✨
Meet Carl 🐾 — he had been missing from his family’s home in Alexandria since April 30.

Recently, a kind community member noticed a cat who seemed disoriented and reached out to AWLA. With the help of Deputy Motte from our Animal Control team, Carl was safely brought to the shelter.

Because Carl had a microchip, we were able to trace him back to his family and reunite them 💜

Carl had traveled more than a mile from home, but his story is proof of the power of microchips (and compassionate neighbors!) to bring beloved pets back where they belong.

📣 Pet parents: a microchip is a small step that can make all the difference.

📍 Found 8/10 near 40 S Aberdeen St
🧡 Domestic Medium Hair, male, ~5 months old, ~4.7 lbs. Very affectionate and easy to handle.

🐾 FOUND – Black Cat
📍 Found 8/9 near 2833 S Wakefield
🖤 Domestic Shorthair, female, ~8 lbs. Sweet and friendly — finder asked around the neighborhood and it seems she may have a family, but no one could identify exactly where she belongs.

🐻 Teddy’s back — and this time, he’s taking on the BOX. 📦 Our big, goofy, treat-loving boy had some serious enrichment fun this week, digging for goodies and showing off his playful side. If you don’t know him yet, Teddy is a 90lb bundle of love who’s house-trained, great with other dogs, and happiest when he’s got space to run (or a giant box to conquer). 🐾💛 Could this be the week Teddy finds his forever home? We may not know our adoptable dogs’ exact birthdays, but that just means we get to celebrate all of them at once — because every pup deserves cake and a special day! 🐶🎂

A huge thank you to our friends at .bakery for donating the cutest (and most delicious) pup cakes. 🩷 From tail wags to frosting-covered noses, our dogs dove headfirst into the party spirit — and yes, a few tried to sneak a second slice. 😉
