Antioch Animal Services Antioch Animal Services is dedicated to promoting animal welfare and public awareness. The City of Antioch operates a full service Animal Shelter.

Antioch Animal Services is a bureau of the Antioch Police Department and is responsible for public safety, enforcing local and state laws, as well as caring for the animals in our shelter. Antioch Animal Services is unique in that we only serve Antioch residents and do so 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The cities surrounding Antioch rely on Contra Costa County Animal Services for their animal

related needs. We recognize the responsibility this bureau has to fairly and wisely exercise good judgment when trying to accomplish our mission. We acknowledge that we are held to a higher standard; therefore, our personal and professional lives must be exemplary. We provide care for the lost, homeless and unwanted animals found or surrendered within the City of Antioch. We work closely with local animal welfare organizations to increase the number of animals that are placed into loving homes.

Bacanator loves all dogs he meets. This 2 year old boi is eager to embrace every day with zest and has a keen sense of adventure (that's code for he's got energy for days 😆), but he will slow his roll and show his couch potato potential once he gets those wiggles out. 🥰

is a day to celebrate the noble profession of veterinarians. The day provides recognition for those who have dedicated their lives to helping animals, and it honors the profession’s role in the health and well-being of animals, people, and communities around the globe. 🌎

We have the pleasure of working with many Veterinarians at VCA East Bay Veterinary Emergency, East Hills Veterinary Hospital, Veterinary Emergency Group, UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, UC Davis Fracture Program for Rescue Animals and communicating with many throughout our City. We thank you all for your continued dedication to this special calling. 🥰

Shelter medicine is not a choice for most Veterinarians. It can be the worst of the worst; non-scheduled patients, criminal cases and on top of regular check ups, spay/neuter and maintaining the health of a shelter population that Vet has to make decisions for an animal in the absence of an owner. That’s a huge weight to carry.

We are so thankful to have a full time Veterinarian in our shelter. Dr. Beverly DVM has proven to have a soft spot for the big ‘uns and there is always something a lil different awaiting her each day on top of the routine “stuff”. There is never a dull moment and our little shelter wouldn’t operate the same without her expertise, care and compassion for the animals within. We appreciate our DVM immensely and all the DVMs we have the pleasure of working with. 💙

Since noone is coming to see them at the shelter they are taking a ride to Petco tomorrow. See them from 12pm to 4pm!

We know there are quite a few of you who have owned/adopted a deaf dog. We love when your experiences are shared as it can be the difference in a decision to adopt.....

McFlurry is our newest deaf resident. He's quite the character. Of course, he sleeps the best out of everyone here at the shelter, a full 8 hours and he's literally bright eyed & bushy tailed in the morning when we arrive. 😆

This approximately 2 year old Husky / Aussie (?) Mix is goofy, fun and friendly. He has an unusual obsession with cars, probably the soothing rumble, the motion, the change of scenery, but we think he'd look fantastic in a convertible with those locks flowing in the wind (this is not a requirement of his adoption).

Polka had a wonderful afternoon with the Antioch High School CARE Club. This Aussie Cattle dog mix is a great size at 30lbs and has a want to be moving and grooving without the "herding" habits.

Polka has happily partnered with other dogs of all size to "play" and likes to take the lead, but can switch it up. 💃
