ICE CREAM FUN! 🍦

"I took these cutie pies to get a cool treat on this hot summer day.

-Vale is such a handsome boy and he makes some of the cutest faces! He was afraid of getting in and out of the car so I had to help him out with that. He enjoyed the car ride and loved his ice cream!

-Roxi jumped right into the car. She climbed up front to be next to me. She stood and watched out the window the whole ride. She took her time eating her ice cream and seemed to really like it!

-Kyoto was nervous to get in the car, but she did great once she was in. She sat and looked out the windows and waited patiently for her ice cream. She did not want to get out of the car when we got back to the shelter, so we sat there for about 10 minutes just enjoying the nice cool air.

-Iclynn is a sweet girl! She was a little shy. She got scared when I opened the car door. I had to pick her up to put her in. She seemed to relax once we got going. She didn’t show much interest in her ice cream. I put it in her kennel when we got back to the shelter and she did end up eating it.

-Rebel loves going in the car! He likes to look out the windows. He jumped up front with me, but didn’t stay up there very long. He loved his ice cream and made sure to lick the bowl clean!"

These ice cream dates are much more than just receiving a sweet treat. This allows volunteers to report back on how the dogs did in the car or around strangers away from the shelter. We greatly appreciate all the time the volunteers put into our cats and dogs!! 🩷❤️

Iclynn is a 3 year old female. She is probably around 30 lbs or so. She is a Samoyed mix which means lots of hair! She is a shy girl who is learning to enjoy attention. She can live with kids, cats and other dogs. She is learning how play with other dogs so another calmer canine would be the best fit.

** Iclynn is in our care in Altoona PA. She is available for adoption. Each animal gets microchipped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated and heartworm/lyme tested. The adoption fee covers those costs. Adoption fees are listed on the application. In person applications take priority over ones mailed or emailed (especially on a popular animal). An application must be filled out in order to visit with any dog or cat. They can be found on our website www.centralpahumane.org under the Adopt A Pet tab or at the shelter. Our animals are posted on Facebook and Petfinder when time permits. A Petfinder inquiry is not an application, and they may not be responded to. We can only accept so many applications for each animal. We do adopt out of state, but we cannot hold the animal. **

Vale is a 1 year old male. He was shaved due to severe matting. We KNOW he is a double coated dog as he is a Samoyed mix but the Amish didn't care to take care of him. Brushing the huge knots was not going to make a difference as they covered his entire body.

He is on the smaller side so probably 40 lbs. He can live with kids, cats and other dogs. He is initially shy meeting other dogs but once he is comfortable he opens up and wants to play!

CANINE CARDIO OUTING!!

"It was a toasty outing with my girl Penny! It was too hot to go on a walk, but Penny enjoyed lounging in the shade around the yard. We did some laps in the grass around the house checking out all the sights and smells. She wasn’t keen on going all in on the splash pad, but she did like standing beside it, enjoying a cooling mist! Once Penny got some anxious energy out she just wanted to sit and be loved on. We also spent some time in the house cooling off. Penny laid on the kitchen floor and received lots of belly rubs! She is a energetic gal, but very food & affection motivated so I think that will be very helpful with her training. Thanks for a great day, Penny!"

UPDATE 6/24/2025: ** UPDATE **
We have made the decision to CLOSE the cat side fully for two weeks due to panleuk. This is a very contagious virus that is easily spread. Staff and volunteers will need additional time to fully clean and sanitize. We also want to ensure that no other cats test positive or show signs over the next two weeks. There will be NO intakes or adoptions during this time. We are in desperate need of litter pans, pellet litter, blankets/towels, and wet cat food. The links are in our shared post! Any donations can be brought to our lobby during open hours.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us during our times of need!

We are in need of pellet litter so we can just throw it out daily! We use the tractor supply pellets - https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tractor-supply-pine-pellet-stall-bedding-40-lb-2181006

We also need kitten sized litter pans. We are using cardboard boxes to get us through the night! This is our most needed item right now! https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/so-phresh-pink-open-kitten-cat-litter-box-3164932?store_code=1765&mr:device=m&mr:adType=pla_with_promotionlocal&cm_mmc=PSH%7CGGL%7CCCY%7CCCO%7CPM%7C0%7CwLsnqptg7qsjE3ixDsjKkx%7C%7C%7C0%7C0%7C%7C%7C22487711160&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22487747703&gbraid=0AAAAAD97F17HPAWyUyTj_SDqq0kYI-J2N&gclid=Cj0KCQjw097CBhDIARIsAJ3-nxfSAh0nNHN9Nu77DQ_4lt2YzPsbgUXsmdAqdTNQ144jItmsmyGNsaMaAvfEEALw_wcB

To clean efficiently and safely for the cats we are in need of rescue disinfectant: https://a.co/d/cPoSeT9

Wet kitten food (helps with extra hydration/entices them to eat):

https://www.chewy.com/tiki-cat-baby-variety-pack-pate-grain/dp/1043430

And finally we are in need of towels, blankets, and large black drawstring trash bags!

As of right by now; we have quarantined set up and are prepared to remain open during this time.

Donations can be dropped off during open hours inside the main lobby or at our gate if we are closed!

Donations can also be mailed to us at 1837 East Pleasant Valley BLVD Altoona PA 16602.

As always; we thank you, our donors, for helping through these times with the needed items. Our animals (and everyone at CPHS) is so lucky to have such a great community. We couldn’t do this all without you!! ❤️❤️❤️

Meet our little girl, Popcorn. She is 13 weeks old and a cavapoo (cavalier/poodle.) She is only 7-8lbs and will stay small. She is not house trained. Please remember that we only have one popcorn. If interested in her; we are open today 1230-430. She is spayed and vaccinated. She was surrendered from a puppy mill due her a luxating patella (dislocated knee.) She has been fully checked by the vet and xrayed. This is extremely minor. You will notice when she sits it looks slightly off - but she should not experience any major problems or need surgery in the future! She can live with cats, kids, and dogs.
