June's Senior Cat Rescue

June's Senior Cat Rescue When my mother, June, passed away she had a senior cat named "Ninety Nine." That's when June's Senior Cat Rescue was born.

We are a 501c3 organization dedicated to rescuing senior cats from high kill shelters, promoting the adoption of older cats, and educating people about the benefits of adopting older pets. No one in our family wanted her, so I decided to drive to California to get Ninety Nine. On the long drive home, I decided that I had to do something to help the senior cats who are left homeless when their owner passes away or becomes too ill to care for them. Thanks, mom for inspiring me to help the seniors!

Final update on Silver ❤️
The dental xrays showed he had 2 tooth root abscesses and NO cancer!! They pulled the roots and he is now home recovering!❤️‍🩹 He is on a soft diet so no chicken or other treats for a while.
Thank you for all your prayers. 🙏
Prayers do work! This will be a Merry Christmas for us at June’s for sure.

Update on Silver! He was dropped off at Blue Cross Animal Clinic this morning to be put under anesthesia for dental X-rays to see what is going on with his mouth. The good news is the swelling has gone down immensely so we are hoping for good news. A picture of Silver taken today is below in the comments.
Thank you so much for your good vibes and prayers. It’s working!! ❤️❤️

🎄🐈Our 12th Save of Christmas 🐈🎄
When Aku’s human came to us for help, she was worried. Aku, a shy but sweet gray tabby, had been experiencing pain—enough pain that she was growling from it.

Aku, affectionately known as Kuku, was a big part of her human’s family and had comforted them during hard times. Aku’s human had rescued her a few years before, but had since lost her job and couldn’t afford a visit to the vet. Still, she didn’t want such an important part of their family to suffer, so she booked an appointment for the following Tuesday and approached June’s Senior Cat Rescue for assistance through our Help Meowt Program.

We learned from her owner that Aku, who was 7 and had not been spayed, wasn’t eating and had discharge indicating she had a uterine infection. Her symptoms pointed to a serious condition called pyometra that requires immediate treatment to prevent sepsis and even death. Waiting until a Tuesday appointment would be too late. The window of time to get Aku to a vet for life-saving treatment was closing fast.

June’s Senior Cat Rescue sprang into action with a Help Meowt grant to make sure Aku got the treatment she needed to save her life. Aku underwent surgery to be spayed and remove the infection, and received her vaccinations and a microchip, and is now recovering at home with her family, who tell us that it’s clear she feels much better now.

June’s Senior Cat Rescue’s Help Meowt program is here to help cats like Aku and her family, providing financial assistance for senior citizens with cats of any age, or anyone who needs help with a senior cat’s vet bills. The program keeps these cats from being surrendered to a shelter because their humans can’t afford vet expenses.

This Holiday Season, Aku is one of our 12 Saves of Christmas—one of the precious cats whose life is brighter because someone cared.

As we continue to care for cats like Aku, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to cats like Aku. Your kindness gives senior cats a future—one filled with comfort, dignity, and love.

🐈🎄Our 11th Save of Christmas 🎄🐈
Mr. Colby lived a comfortable life, with a favorite spot on the couch and warm nights curled up in bed with his owner. Then one day, all of that changed. Strange people came into his home, and he heard them say his person had died. All of a sudden, someone took him from his house to a strange, crowded place where he was put into a cage. That would be traumatic for anyone, but it’s particularly traumatic for a 15-year-old senior cat.

For senior cats like Mr. Colby, losing their home and their person is overwhelming. Cats who are older or struggle with change are often overlooked in shelters. But at June’s Senior Cat Rescue, seniors are never rushed, overlooked, or forgotten. They’re met with patience, gentleness, and the time they need to feel safe again.
When Mr. Colby came to June’s, his life changed again—for the better. Shy Mr. Colby is slowly settling in. He doesn’t like sudden movements or loud noises, but we can’t blame him. He’s learning to enjoy watching TV on the couch with his foster mom, and even though he came to us from the shelter severely matted, he’s even allowing us to brush him to get his coat beautiful again.

This Holiday Season, Mr. Colby is one of our 12 Saves of Christmas—a reminder that every shy, frightened senior deserves safety, patience, and love.

As we continue to care for cats like Sam, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to the senior cats in our care. Your compassion makes gentle new beginnings possible.

🎄🐈Our 10th Save of Christmas 🐈🎄
When 17-year-old Sam arrived from the Rio Rancho, NM shelter on June 20, he seemed like a typical senior cat—easygoing, calm, and happiest when curled up for a nap. But shortly after he settled in, we noticed something concerning: Sam wobbled when he walked. We immediately scheduled a vet appointment, hoping it was something simple. It wasn’t.

After examining him and running bloodwork, the vet grew concerned that Sam might have cancer and recommended additional testing. We quickly scheduled an ultrasound. But in the days that followed, Sam weakened dramatically. His wobble worsened. He struggled to walk. And despite our hopes, it became clear that Sam was nearing the end of his life.

After difficult conversations with our vet, we made the heartbreaking but compassionate decision to help Sam cross over.

Letting a senior go is the hardest part of our work—but we take comfort in knowing that no cat at June’s ever dies alone. Someone is always there, offering gentle hands, soft words, and love until their last breath. Sam was with us for only six days, but in that short time, he became part of our family. He lounged on the couch, sought out cozy spots for naps, and filled our home with the quiet sweetness that only a senior cat can.

Sam’s time with us was brief, but it mattered. This is why we do what we do: to ensure that every senior cat—whether they’re with us for years, months, or only days—has dignity, softness, and love at the end of their life.

This Holiday Season, Sam is one of our 12 Saves of Christmas—a reminder that every senior cat deserves comfort and companionship in their final moments.

As we continue to care for cats like Sam, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to the senior cats in our care. Your generosity gives senior cats peace, love, and dignity when they need it most.
