Think you've got a sharp eye? Starting TOMORROW Tuesday, August 19, one Golden Paw, one Silver Paw and one Bronze Paw will be hidden somewhere in the zoo - each with its own level of difficulty. Find one of the paws, turn it in at reception, claim your prize!

🐐 Attention all fun seekers! We're throwing a party for the goats, and you're invited 🎉 August 23 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Goats Galore is a celebration of all things goat including a goat parade, up-close encounters, a scavenger hunt, a hoof trimming demonstration and more. Plus, Securitas Technology is providing FREE carousel rides ALL DAY!

Goats Galore is included with general admission and free for Akron Zoo members.

Remember our American Red Wolf pups that were cross fostered back in 2021? We recently received an update from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)!

One of the females gave birth to three pups, two females and one male, back in early April! USFWS reports that their monitoring through cameras and tracking indicates that this litter is thriving.

However, this exciting news also comes with sadness. Before the pups were born, their father was hit by a car and did not survive. This is a stark reminder of why it is important to adhere to speed limits, especially on protected wildlife reserves. His legacy will continue on in his three pups, and mom appears to be doing well as a single mother.

This is the second set of pups to be born to our cross fostered wolves. The other female gave birth back in 2023 and two of those pups have since been collared and entered into the red wolf population.

The Akron Zoo is a proud partner of the American Red Wolf SAFE program. This birth is a major celebration for the native red wolf population, which currently stands at 28-31 estimated wolves, 18 of which are known collared wolves. There are currently 280 wolves in American Red Wolf SAFE partner facilities like the Akron Zoo.

Myra Rosé would like to invite you to Wild for Wine this Saturday, August 16! Enjoy an evening at the zoo, sample wines from local wineries while watching an animal painting demonstration and listening to live music.

Guests who attended our Brick-Tastic event over the weekend were tasked with creating their own builds to be entered into our building competition. After receiving over 130 submissions, we've narrowed it down to a top 10 🎉 Now, we need your help choosing the winners!

Vote for your favorite by reacting to the picture of the build you like the most. The three builds that receive the most reactions will receive a special prize! Voting starts NOW and ends one week from today, Thursday, August 21 at 4 p.m.

We need your help to name our new gibbon baby boy! Voting is now open through Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. for our naming contest. Vote at https://www.akronzoo.org/naming-contest. Comments do not count.

The names choices are:
▪️Leuco (pronounced Loo-koh): from white-cheeked gibbon's scientific name, Nomascus leucogenys.
▪️Kien (pronounced Kee-en): means strong in Vietnamese. In southeast Asia, gibbons are seen in folklore as guardians of the forests, symbols of strength and protection.
▪️Coda: In music, a coda is a passage at the end of a musical piece, bringing it to a close. Male gibbons end their duets with females with a musical coda.
▪️Khai: means to begin/new opportunities in Vietnamese.
▪️Rain: There are different myths throughout Asia that a gibbon's song will bring rain.

Vote once for your favorite name, and then the final two names with the most votes will be presented to the gibbon family on enrichment. The first item touched one one of the gibbons will be the baby's name!

The Akron Zoo is a place for the whole family and now, this includes the furry ones too! 🐾 Layla would like to invite you to Bark After Dark where you'll get to visit the zoo and take your dog on a walk after we've closed for the evening.

There will be vendors, toys and pup cups available! Water bowls will be placed across the zoo and trash cans to toss anything your dog may drop on the ground. Special ticket packages that include a souvenir Akron Zoo bandana are also available for purchase!
