Woah what a day.
Early start, late finish, we're just running on fumes at this point.
Today we had 33 cats vetted which means countless future litters prevented and multiple people in our community were able to get help with affordable care for their pets when they otherwise may not have been able to. That alone makes the exhaustion worth it.
While the kitties were at clinic, we spent the day trying to complete some of the projects we've been working on and getting ready for our fundraiser this Saturday. We had an awesome turnout tonight to with some extra hands to help get more done (thank you Nicole❤️) none of this crew had been here before and not all are even "cat people" but they saw a need and wanted to help in whatever way the could. I hope everyone knows just how much we appreciate all you did tonight.
These last several weeks have been chaos.
We’ve been pushing nonstop trying to finish the work we started in the adoption center. It’s still not done, but the end is finally in sight, all while kitten season has completely exploded around us. We have more cats in our care than ever at this point and with 62 intakes in the last 4 weeks and several more scheduled in the next few days. We’re seeing more moms with babies than we ever have before, along with so many sick and suffering cats coming in constantly. It feels like for the last two months it’s just been one thing after another with no time to slow down.
In previous years, times like this pushed us past our breaking point, we didn't have the systems in place we do now or the infrastructure to handle it. Now we do, and while nothing is ever perfect, things are functioning routinely, days don't always go as planned and we adapt and adjust and keep moving.
And somehow this next week is going to be even crazier.
Today was our May clinic
Saturday is our spring fundraiser.
Then Tuesday is a really quick turnaround for our June clinic, we’ll also start trapping the barn colony we posted about before, we've already pulled some from there and we are hoping to TNVR at least 10 from there next week.
It’s exhausting. Mentally, physically, financially, emotionally exhausting.
I keep thinking about how much has changed since we started and how some things never will. One of those things is what a small group of people can accomplish.
Less than 3 years ago this rescue did not exist. The few individuals who now volunteer their days and nights working what amounts to a full-time job didn’t even know each other. Since then, we’ve helped nearly 1,200 cats. None of that happens without the right people with the right attitude continuing to show up even when they’re tired.
We are so thankful and incredibly proud of what our amazing team continues to accomplish. 🖤🐾
