We’re seeing a lot of questions about the dress code for the disco, and the easiest answer is… everything goes. ✨🪩

Want to get dressed up fancy? Do it.
Want to go full retro? Absolutely.
Neon, sequins, platform shoes, bell bottoms? Go for it.
A comfy little black dress? Perfect.
Jeans with a sparkly top? That works too.

There really isn’t a “right” way to dress for the night. We want everyone to wear whatever makes them feel comfortable, fun and ready to have a good time.

Think retro 70s Christmas party... a little glam, a little funky, a little over the top if you want it to be.

More than anything, we just want this to be a night where everyone can forget about the stress for a few hours, enjoy a really great meal, have some drinks, dance, laugh, dress up if you feel like it, and spend the night with some really good people, all while supporting a great cause.

So, wear the sequins. Wear the sneakers. Break out the platform shoes. Or keep it simple.

Just come ready to have fun. 🪩✨

We’re excited to have Vintage Glam Photo Booth back at this year’s Meows Under the Disco Ball! 🪩 Anyone who came last year knows how much fun the photo booth/selfie station was!

This year we’re adding lots of fun props and flashing light-ups to pose with, so get dressed up, grab your friends, and have some fun with it! You can send the photos right to your phone to save and share. We’ll also be taking entrance photos of each person or couple again this year.

We can’t wait to see everyone all dressed up and having a good time together. You won’t want to miss it! ❤️

We really need everyone’s help to make this event a success. ❤️

Fundraisers like this are what allow us to keep growing and keep saying yes to cats who need us.

We’ve taken in over 600 cats just this year and have now helped around 1,500 cats since we started. Today we have more cats in our care than ever before, including so many of our sanctuary and special needs kitties who aren’t just here for a few weeks until adoption. Some will need us for months, years, or for the rest of their lives because there simply isn’t another place for them to go.

That’s exactly why these fundraisers matter so much.

I’ll be honest, the response to our big event this year has been much quieter than it was last year, and I’m struggling to figure out how to get it in front of more people. We’ve had so many people tell us they’re interested in coming, but right now we’re just not seeing the ticket sales or response we need to make an event this size successful.

So if you’ve been thinking about coming, please get your tickets. If you’ve been thinking about donating a basket, gift card, bottle of w**e or raffle item, we would be incredibly grateful. And even if you can’t do either of those things, PLEASE share the event. Invite your friends. Tag someone who might want a fun night out while supporting the cats.

We have some really big plans for the future of Akron Rescue Cats, but we can’t build any of it alone. Every single ticket, donation and share helps us keep moving forward and helps us be here for the next scared kitten, senior cat, injured stray or special needs kitty who has nowhere else to go.

We have big news! 😊 As we continue to grow, we are taking our next big step toward helping more cats in need.

We currently operate out of my 1,200 sq. ft. garage. It’s not perfect, but it’s a haven for cats who need us, and we’ve made the most of what we have. We are out of space, though, and operating from my home makes it difficult to have regular open hours or hold the events we’ve wanted to do since the start.

Our ultimate goal is still a permanent forever facility. But we’ve always been very aware that this rescue needs to be sustainable long term. We’re cautious with our finances because we don’t want to put ourselves in a position where debt or overhead keeps us from providing the care these cats need.

Last night, we received change of use approval for a second location, and we can finally share what we’ve been working on, the Akron Rescue Cats Boutique and Cat Lounge!

This will be a cozy retail space with a separate cat lounge where you can visit, snuggle with the cats, and hopefully meet your newest family member. You’ll also be able to shop for cute cat gifts, supplies, and our own rescue merchandise!

This location will help us generate ongoing revenue, with all money going toward supporting our rescue efforts in the community. Visiting, shopping, or joining us for an event will all be ways to help us keep caring for the cats who need us.

We’ll also offer lounge rentals for small get-togethers, girls’ nights, and birthday parties, along with gatherings like craft nights, pet loss support groups, and evenings where you can just come in and talk about your kitties, current and past.

We have so many amazing conversations with all of you. We hear about the cats you’ve adopted, the ones who changed your lives, and the ones you’re still missing. We love sharing in that love for your pets, and now we’ll have a warm, welcoming space to do even more of it. ❤️

This won’t be a shelter or intake location. It will give us a dedicated place to welcome you, introduce you to our adoptable cats, and bring our community together while helping support the work happening behind the scenes.

We still have a lot of work to do before we can open, but we’re so excited to bring this little space to life. The cats we take in have often had very little, and we can’t wait to give them a cozy, beautiful place to be seen and loved. They deserve every bit of it. ❤️

Our fosters never cease to amaze us. ❤️

Hedy came to us in July with her mom and brother after their owners passed away. They’d had very little interaction with people for years, then spent months with someone only coming to provide food.

All three were timid, but Hedy was the most nervous of them all. She barely moved while she was at the rescue. She was just so sad and shut down. They went off to foster, and we hoped that with time they would start to settle in.

Now look at her, bouncing around and playing like a kitten. Seeing her feel comfortable enough to do this is amazing. We’re so grateful to her foster for giving her the time and patience she needed to get here.

Hedy is ready to find her forever home. She would do best in a quiet home with an older person and no other pets. Someone who will give her time to settle in and let her come around at her own pace. ❤️

Meet Oliver! 🧡

Oliver was found all alone in the middle of the road and brought into our care. Since then, this brave little boy has been doing so well in foster and showing everyone what a sweetheart he is!

Oliver is cuddly, loving, and a little silly. He has so much love to give and is more than ready to find a family of his very own. After such a scary start, we can’t wait for him to find a home where he’ll be safe, loved, and spoiled just like he deserves. ❤️
