The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal welfare is an animal shelter and adoption facility offering affordable spay & neuter services and vaccinations.

We have been placing thousands of needy animals into loving forever homes for over 80 years. MISSION
We strive to improve the lives of companion animals by rehoming abused, abandoned, and neglected

pets while fighting for their well-being through vigorous legislative effort, humane education, and by offering affordable veterinary care for all. VISION
We envision a world in which every animal has a safe and loving home, access to quality veterinary care, and where the unfailing love and devotion of a companion animal is valued by all. We depend upon local donations to support our efforts to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in our community and receive no regular funding from state or federal agencies, or from the ASPCA (a completely separate entity). Our success is due to the efforts of dedicated SPCA Albrecht Center employees and volunteers, leadership and support from our Board of Directors, as well as the generous donations and continued support of our community.

What if the best place to meet your future dog... isn't the shelter? ❤️🐶

Shelter dogs can be stressed, overwhelmed, and nothing like their true selves inside a kennel. But give them a few hours outside the shelter, and something amazing happens. Just ask Nami.

A recent Doggie Day Out participant took her to Hopelands Gardens and home for a sleepover, where she proved to be housebroken, wonderful with young children, an expert cuddler, and the perfect houseguest. Sometimes all a dog needs is the chance to show you who they really are.

Wellsy's Facebook post reached more than 75,000 people. She received 48 messages from families interested in adopting her. By the time we opened on Friday, there were people waiting to meet her, and she was adopted almost immediately.

We couldn't be happier for Wellsy. ❤️

But if you loved her and missed the chance to bring her home... here's your second chance. Meet Alfred🐾

He's a goofy dog that would do just about anything for a yummy treat. He walks beautifully on a leash, rides great in the car, and wins over everyone he meets. He loves adventure just as much as he loves cuddling on the couch. Alfred is simply a really, really great dog.

But he has been here since October 2025.... The truth is, dogs don't stay in shelters because there aren't enough good homes. Sometimes they stay because the right person never knew they existed.

So today, we're hoping to change that. ❗Help us introduce people to Alfred.❗

Meet Wellsy 🩵🐾 We took her to News 12 26 Augusta this morning for their Take Me Home segment, and let's just say she was perfect!

She soaked up all the attention, politely accepted every belly rub and scritch offered, and charmed everyone she met. She's potty trained, eager to learn, and one of those dogs that's always looking to her person for what's next.

Wellsy is only about a year old, so she comes with a healthy dose of puppy enthusiasm. She'll do best with someone who appreciates that kind of joyful energy and is excited to help her continue learning.

She's the kind of dog that makes you smile without even trying. Now we just need someone to come see what we saw this morning.

❗We Need Fosters❗ These kittens are young, playful, healthy, and are at perfect age to start exploring the world but a shelter isn't where that should happen.

A spare bedroom, guest room, or bathroom gives them a safe place to grow, build confidence, and get used to life in a home before they're ready for adoption.

We'll provide the food, medical care, supplies, and support. You provide the temporary home. If you've ever considered fostering, now is a wonderful time to start.

And if fostering isn't an option for you, sharing this post might help these little ones find the people they're waiting for🩵

One of our Pet Care Specialists snapped this picture of Yukon after surgery, and we just couldn't keep it to ourselves.

This sweet puppy came to us after a witness reported seeing him dumped outside the local Kroger. Now he's exactly where he belongs - warm, safe, and getting the care he needs🩵

Yukon is available for adoption and this week all dog adoption fees are half off🐾
