Established in 1935, the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is a private, non-profit organization operating under IRS Section 501c3. We have been placing thousands of needy animals into loving forever homes for over 80 years. MISSION
We strive to improve the lives of companion animals by rehoming abused, abandoned, and neglected pets while fighting for their well-being through vigorous legis

lative effort, humane education, and by offering affordable veterinary care for all. VISION
We envision a world in which every animal has a safe and loving home, access to quality veterinary care, and where the unfailing love and devotion of a companion animal is valued by all. We depend upon local donations to support our efforts to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in our community and receive no regular funding from state or federal agencies, or from the ASPCA (a completely separate entity). Our success is due to the efforts of dedicated SPCA Albrecht Center employees and volunteers, leadership and support from our Board of Directors, as well as the generous donations and continued support of our community.

Registration and voting are now open for our 2nd annual community fundraising competition benefiting the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare!

Here's how it works:

🏆 Compete for the title of Aiken's Top Dog

The Top 10 fundraising dogs will earn a spot in our LIVE championship event on October 10 at Good Girl Brewing Co, where they'll compete in exciting challenges and crowd-favorite games.

And the ultimate prize?

Can we talk about the old dogs for a minute...
Right now, we have a large group of senior dogs here at the shelter, and almost every one of them has the same thing in common - they keep getting overlooked.

Meanwhile, they are some of the easiest dogs here!

Dogs like Winchell, whose greatest passion in life is relaxing indoors and minding his business. Zoe, who just wants a calm routine and and relaxed people. Bonnie and Buster, our mother-son bonded pair who still get excited over squeaky toys and being together. Goose... Bass... All of these amazing dogs who have already figured out who they are, what they like, and what they don't.

There’s something really special about that🩵✨

Senior dogs know how to settle into a home. Most aren’t interested in chewing your shoes, bouncing off the walls, or turning your living room into a wrestling match. They want quiet walks, soft beds, familiar friends, and a little consistency.

The hard part is that people often walk right past them looking for younger dogs instead. So while puppies usually have lines of people waiting to meet them, our older dogs sit quietly in their kennels watching families pass by every day.

And they deserve better than that.

If you’ve ever thought about adopting an older dog, this is your sign to come meet them. They may not be the loudest dogs in the shelter, but they have a way of becoming the dogs people talk about for years afterward.

🧡❗AIKEN'S TOP DOG IS BACK❗🧡
Starting Monday, June 1st, local dogs and their humans will compete once again for the title of Aiken’s Top Dog!

Last year was our very first competition, and honestly… the response blew us away. Sixty-seven dogs joined the fundraiser, the live event was packed with voters, and together this community raised more than $25,000 to support the animals in our care.

So we're bringing it back for 2026! Here’s how it works:
👉 Participants create a fundraising page for their dog
👉Friends and family vote through donations
👉 The Top 10 fundraising dogs advance to the live competition at Good Girl Brewing Company on October 10th to compete for the coveted title of "Aiken's Top Dog"

The winning pup will even have their name and likeness featured on menu at our proud partner and presenting sponsor Good Girl Brewing Co.!

Fundraising officially begins June 1st, giving participants all summer long to rally support and climb the leaderboard. Stay tuned for more details coming soon✨🐾

Adoptions have been a little slower than usual lately🐾🩵

Meanwhile, the shelter is still full of really good dogs and cats waiting for someone to notice them. Some are playful and outgoing. Some are quieter and take a little more time. A few have been here much longer than they should have been.

But all of them are ready for the same thing, a home of their own.
