The knowledge transfer was a success!

We extend our sincere thanks to the Singapore Veterinary Nurses and Technicians Chapter .sg for organizing Vet Tech Night Out 2025. It was a pleasure to have our own Dr Samantha Fong from the Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team at Landon Veterinary Specialist Hospital | Pet A+E share her expertise with the dedicated participants.

Dr Fong provided a comprehensive look at the fundamental, life-saving role of therapeutic tubes in ECC. Her session was a crucial reminder of how these specialized critical patient access lines are indispensable in stabilization, directly supporting the most unstable patients:

Breathing: Essential for airway management and mechanical support.
Draining: Vital for removing life-threatening fluid or air accumulations.
Nutrition: Necessary for immediate, sustained metabolic support.

We are proud to have Dr Fong in our team, ensuring every critical patient benefits from high level of experience and commitment to emergency and critical care. Follow us for more updates on our team's professional development and clinical insights!

Landon Veterinary Specialist Hospital introduces a new service to help our patients : videofluoroscopy. One of the many purposes of fluoroscopy is to investigate gagging, coughing, or choking during eating or drinking, as well as regurgitation or suspected reflux.

Here, we see specialists Dr Jennifer Kan and Dr Nathalee Prakash, doing a swallow study.
During a swallow study, the patient stays conscious (no anaesthesia needed) and is fed varying consistencies of food which contain liquid barium while the fluoroscopy machine captures the swallowing in real-time. Barium is a contrast agent added to the food so that the food consumed is visible through the imaging screens.

Fluoroscopy can also be used to investigate respiratory problems like collapsing tracheas, and urinary issues such as structural obstructions and assist in placing stents. Follow us as we post more studies!

Halloween is fun, but it can be dangerous for our pets. Candy, especially chocolate and Xylitol, can be deadly and even the wrappers pose a choking risk. Make sure your pet’s costume fits comfortably and doesn’t restrict movement or breathing. With Singapore’s heat, keep dress-up sessions short to prevent overheating. Let’s keep this spooky season safe for our furry friends!

Learning at Landon Veterinary Specialist Hospital | Pet A+E

Our vet nurses recently participated in an enriching session with Dr Jennifer Kan, our Radiology Specialist, on TFAST and AFAST ultrasound techniques. Through a combination of detailed presentations and hands-on practice, the team strengthened their understanding of the ultrasound device which would be helpful in emergency scenarios.

At Landon Veterinary Specialist Hospital, we are proud to foster continuous learning and skill development, ensuring our team is always ready to provide the best for every patient.

Meet Miyu.

Since 2019, Miyu was under the care of Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr Nathalee Prakash, to manage her condition of meningitis. But when new symptoms such as gagging and vomiting appeared, advanced blood work led to a surprising discovery of hypercalcemia showing elevated values in ionized calcium at 1.93 mmol/L when the normal ranges from 1.25 to 1.45 mmol/L. Her CT scans confirmed Primary Hyperparathyroidism caused by an enlarged left cranial parathyroid gland.

Dr Prakash then internally referred Miyu to our Specialist Surgeon, Dr Benjamin Landon, for a successful parathyroidectomy. Histopathology of the removed tissue confirmed a benign adenoma, and Miyu had a smooth recovery with a recent ionized calcium check of 1.42 mmol/L that falls within her normal range.
We are thrilled that Miyu has recovered and is thriving thanks to advanced diagnostics and specialist collaboration.
