Joe is a handsome, 7 week old, male, Staffy X.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Unknown.
Good with children: Yes.
Alone time: Short periods while young.

Joe is such a cool little man with the sweetest gentle nature. He absolutely loves following his foster family around and thrives on routine, quickly learning that “toilet time” means heading straight outside. When he’s not exploring, Joe can usually be found snoozing somewhere soft and snuggly - either tucked up in his crate or curled up close to his humans. In fact, he once gave everyone quite a fright when he “went missing,” only to be discovered hidden under the softest blanket draped over the back of a chair. Cheeky and adorable all rolled into one!

Joe is still a little cautious in new environments and appreciates reassurance while building confidence. Loud noises like the vacuum can make him nervous and he’ll often find a safe little hiding spot until things quieten down again. He’s been along for school pick-ups but prefers sticking close to the people he knows and trusts.

Joe’s been wonderful with his siblings and his foster’s Cavoodle, happily playing chase and diving headfirst into the toy basket to carefully consider all his options before choosing his next favourite toy.

Joe is crate trained, learning basic obedience and redirects easily away from items he shouldn’t be chewing.

With his medium energy level, Joe would love an active but routine based home filled with patience, reassurance and plenty of cuddles. We promise you won’t want to miss out on the world’s best little shoulder and neck snuggler - this sweet boy truely melts hearts.

If you are interested in adopting Joe and own your own home then please complete our adoption application form - https://airtable.com/apptS9QFkdVrQm2su/shrXmMrksf6Ci8dYQ

A $500 adoption fee applies to help us cover the costs of vaccinations, microchipping, desexing and flea/worm treatment.

Please note: Joe will not be placed in his forever home until he’s over 8 weeks of age.

Rhea is a gorgeous, 7 week old, female, Staffy X.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Unknown.
Good with children: Yes.
Alone time: Short periods while young.

Rhea's foster writes:

Meet Rhea, little miss independent. She is always the first to go and scope out something new and is happiest when she's off on her own little adventures around the yard. Long grasses and bushes are her absolute favourites! She'll check in to see where you are every now and then before heading off to continue exploring, and when she's ready to come back inside, she'll happily make her way back to the door.

Rhea strikes a great balance between being sociable and independent. She loves to wrestle, play, and explore with her two siblings, but she also enjoys her own company and will happily take any opportunity to have the whole crate to herself for a nap. With people, she's friendly and enjoys a good snuggle, but she's equally happy entertaining herself if you're busy.

At only six weeks old, Rhea is already sleeping through the night in her crate with just one toilet break and is very confident with her toileting during the day. She is just starting to be exposed to basic commands but already responds quickly to a gentle verbal correction if you don't want her to go somewhere or chew on something.

Rhea has a medium energy level and would love a home where she can enjoy plenty of walks and adventures, balanced with some quiet downtime. She would be best suited to a home with adults or older children who will appreciate her independent spirit while giving her all the love and guidance she needs as she grows.

If you are interested in adopting Rhea and own your own home then please complete our adoption application form - https://airtable.com/apptS9QFkdVrQm2su/shrXmMrksf6Ci8dYQ

Polly is a gorgeous, 20 week old, female, Staffy X.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Unknown.
Good with children: Yes.
Alone time: Short periods while young.

Polly's foster writes:

Polly is a confident and affectionate little girl who will warmly greet anyone she meets. She can be a little cautious in new environments, but quickly settles once she feels safe. Polly loves to rough play with her brother - and is more than happy to finish any play fight he starts! She’s very food motivated and will patiently wait by her bowl to let you know it’s time, all while doing really well with her toilet training.

Polly sleeps quietly in her crate, snuggling down as soon as the door closes, and is just as happy curled up in your lap for cuddles. She’ll often sit at your feet waiting for affection and has the sweetest nature, with eyes that truly look right into your soul. Polly is great with people of all ages and other dogs, and is respectful of older dogs who prefer their space. She is crate trained, progressing well with toilet training, and at this stage is just a young pup learning and growing.

With her low energy level and gentle, loving nature, Polly would fit beautifully into just about any home.

Dot is a gorgeous, 10 week old, female, Staffy X.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Dog-experienced cats only.
Good with children: School-aged children & older.
Alone time: Short periods while young.

Dot's foster writes:

Dot has a whole lot of personality packed into one tiny, adorable package. Fast, clever, playful, and incredibly snuggly, this sweet girl keeps everyone entertained before happily curling up on the couch for cuddles at the end of the day.

Dot loves playing with rope toys and chew toys and is great at keeping herself busy when needed. She’s currently fostered with two small dogs and has picked up their doggy cues beautifully. While she can be a little unsure when first meeting new dogs, she quickly settles in and happily follows the pack. Dot has also met a confident cat and was politely curious, though a more nervous cat may inspire a game of chase.

She travels well in the car, is crate trained, settles beautifully overnight, and is progressing wonderfully with toilet training and basic obedience. Dot already knows how to sit for treats and mealtimes and has even learned to use a ramp off the deck. Like most young puppies, she’s still working on mouthing, but responds well to routine and guidance.

Dot would love a home with another friendly dog to play with, but she would also be happy as an only dog as long as she has humans around for company during part of the day.

It's time for a very special Whisky update!

On 26 April, Whisky headed off on trial with a wonderful couple who she instantly bonded with. From the moment they met, it felt like a match made in heaven.

While the journey hasn't been completely smooth sailing, Whisky has taken every challenge in her stride. Not long after settling into her new home, she suffered a cruciate ligament tear and required orthopaedic surgery. Despite this setback, she tackled her recovery with the same resilience and determination she has always shown. Thanks to the unwavering love and support of her devoted family, Whisky is recovering beautifully.

Today, we're thrilled to share that Whisky's adoption has officially been confirmed!

She is absolutely adored, spoilt rotten, and living the life every rescue dog deserves.

A very special thank you goes to Go Raw Pet Food NZ for their incredible support. When Whisky first came into care, she was struggling with a severe skin condition - raw, inflamed, itchy skin, patchy hair loss, and a dull coat. Through a combination of veterinary care, dedication from her fosters, and a high-quality raw diet, Whisky has been transformed. Today, her coat is thick, soft, and glossy, and she is far more comfortable in her own skin. The difference has been nothing short of remarkable.

Thank you to everyone who supported Whisky along the way, and a huge congratulations to her forever family. We couldn't be happier for you all.

Happily ever after, Whisky. You deserve it!

Shyla is a beautiful, 8 year old, female, Chihuahua X.

Good with dogs: Yes - very social wee girl. She loves to play with other dogs, but will also just chill out and sit with them.
Good with cats: Dog experienced cats only.
Good with children: Yes - adores children.
Alone time: 1 - 3 hours.

After dental and nasal widening surgery Shyla is finally ready to find her forever home! Her foster writes:

Shyla is a sweet girl who simply loves to keep you company and is perfectly content just following you around the house - she really is the perfect little shadow. She enjoys a good nap and is more than happy to be your co-pilot in the car, riding along calmly by your side.

She’s a real social butterfly who loves spending time with her humans and her foster siblings. Shyla has great energy and keeps up well with her Border Collie foster brother, joining in the fun while still being her lovely, easygoing self. Her energy level sits nicely in the medium range.

Shyla is fully toilet trained, understands basic obedience commands and walks nicely on a loose leash. We're currently working on introducing the crate as a den space, so she has a quiet place to chill out when she wants to.

We are SEEKING A YOUNG FAMILY for Shyla WITH CHILDREN, AND AN ACTIVE CANINE COMPANION. She has so much love to give and is such a cutie - she truly melts the hearts of everyone she meets.

If you are interested in adopting Shyla and own your own home then please complete our adoption application form - https://airtable.com/apptS9QFkdVrQm2su/shrXmMrksf6Ci8dYQ

Today, International Nurses Day was celebrated at Wellington Hospital, and many of our newer followers may not realise why that means something to a dog rescue.

Chance 4 Change was founded by a Registered Nurse with a lifelong passion for dogs and rescue work. Like many rescues, our team are all volunteers balancing full-time jobs, family life, and rescue behind the scenes.

So when we don’t answer the phone immediately, your email takes a little time to reply to, or you don’t hear back straight away regarding an adoption application, please know it’s not because we don’t care - it’s because we’re often coming straight from hospital shifts, work commitments, or family responsibilities before jumping back into rescue mode.

Every adoption, transport run, vet appointment, fundraising post, and late night emergency is made possible by people donating their free time simply because they care deeply about animals.

The photos below were taken in January when some of our team visited Camp Quality with puppies - bringing together three things very close to our hearts: nursing, dogs and making a difference in the lives of others.

Thank you for supporting our small volunteer-run rescue and for showing kindness and patience to the humans behind the scenes.

And lastly, a huge thank you to all nurses - both within our rescue and beyond - for the compassion, resilience, and care you show every single day.

Milly is a gorgeous, 10 week old, female, Staffy X.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Unknown.
Good with children: School-aged children & older.
Alone time: Short periods while young.

Milly'a foster writes:

Milly is a confident, energetic young lady who lives for a good game of chase and throws herself into life with enthusiasm. She plays hard, naps hard, and when the zoomies are over, transforms into a total cuddle bug who loves curling up close to her humans for a snooze.

Milly is doing wonderfully with socialisation, learning appropriate play and doggy manners from her foster brother and foster mum. She’s currently learning basic obedience, progressing well with toilet training, and starting to understand crate etiquette too. Like most clever, high-energy puppies, Milly is still working on things like jumping up, mouthing, and remembering that furniture isn’t a chew toy.

Milly would love a home ready to embrace her playful spirit, continue her training, and give her plenty of adventures, enrichment, and cuddles along the way.
