😿 WE’RE IN TROUBLE — NEED HELP FAST! 😿

Our vet bill just came in… and it’s nearly $2,000.
Yep, you read that right.

It covers desexing and urgent care for a group of rescue cats who had no one else in their corner — but us — to fight for their future.

We’ve done the hard part: the cats are safe, healing, and on their way to loving homes. But now we’re left with a bill that could break us — we simply can’t cover it all on our own. 😞

💸 Can you help us out?
Even a few dollars could be the difference that keeps us afloat.
We’re not government funded — and like every rescue we are powered by love, hard work, and the kindness of people like you.

🧾 Donations can be made to:
Found-a-Feline

(Some banks may warn of a name/account mismatch — ignore it. As long as the number is right, your donation will reach us no problem!)

Can’t donate? Sharing this post helps more than you know. 💛
Thank you for helping us help them. 🐾

🐾 BUBBLES IS HOME! 🐾
Video in comments below

Bubbles, a friendly tuxedo cat, went missing from Titahi Bay, Porirua in early 2023. For what felt like years, his family held onto hope & now, thanks to a beautiful chain of kindness, Bubbles has finally made it home. 💛

This heartwarming reunion was made possible thanks to two amazing girls — Rosie & Charli — who had been going above ,& beyond to trap a kitten they’d spotted near their Plimmerton workplace. But almost immediately, instead of the kitten, they captured Bubbles!

They didn’t just act on impulse — they had a solid plan in place for whatever outcome might occur. Before they even set the trap, they arranged for the next steps if any cat was caught.

As soon as Bubbles was safely secured, they reached out to us at Found-a-Feline to scan him for a microchip & despite the chilly night air, there were big smiles all round when a chip was found! 😺

Because Bubbles’ family had kept their details up to date on the NZ Companion Animal Register, we were able to get them on the phone straight away & the reunion was quickly arranged.

We drove Bubbles home to his excited Titahi Bay family ourselves.

Upon arrival, he was understandably overwhelmed. He exited the carrier cautiously & made a beeline straight under the couch.

But within minutes… comprehension dawned.
Then came the magic. ✨

Bubbles squeezed his adorably well-fed (now slightly tubby!) self out from under the couch, tail held high, & instantly launched into full-blown appreciation mode rubbing up on his ecstatic human mum, purring, smooching, & showering her with love. 💕

After reassuring her just how happy he was to be back, he began sharing the love around with the rest of us & our hearts absolutely melted seeing how overjoyed he was.

Welcome home, Bubbles.
& a huge thank you to everyone who helped care for him during his time away. Judging by the effort it took his mum to lift the couch for him to get back out… it’s clear he’s been eating very well! 😂

To anyone still searching ,please don’t lose hope.
Miracles do happen.

Please please please
Keep your furbabies microchip details up to date, have a secondary contact & include as much info as you can on your NZCAR file — it truly makes a difference when it matters most 🐾

Just a wee reminder....

"Three words of advice for reaching out to animal rescuers: assume the best.

Assume that if you’re reaching out to someone who does animal rescue, you’re reaching out to someone who has a huge heart. Assume that they care deeply about saving lives. Assume that if they don’t respond to you right away, or at all, it’s because they’re so busy helping animals. Assume that you’re the 10th, 20th, or 100th person to reach out to them today asking for help. Assume that if they can’t help you, it’s because they are already at max capacity. Assume that you do not know or see a fraction of what is on their plate. Assume that they might be exhausted. Assume that they might be grieving, or tender. Assume that they are a loving, kind person who is a source of good for the world. Assume that they are worthy of being treated with consideration and respect. Assume that they are human.

Because 9 times out of 10, if you assume these things about an animal rescuer, you will be right. So when you reach out to an animal rescuer, let your words be filled with gratitude, patience, and understanding. Don’t use your words to jab at animal rescuers for not being available enough, not doing more, not “caring,” not being able to single-handedly save the world. Treat animal rescuers with compassion, not just when they can help you, but even—and especially—when they can’t. And when they can’t, don’t assume the worst. Assume the best.💕

SOOTY IS HOME – AFTER MISSING TWO YEARS!
Please keep your furbaby’s microchip details up to date. This is a story of why…

Sooty, a big handsome tuxedo cat, had been living rough in an industrial area of Porirua for quite some time. Every evening, I’d drive over and feed him when things were quiet and calm. He got used to this quickly & would always appear when i got there.

He was scared and kept his distance, but something about him told me he once belonged to someone—that he wasn’t born to this life.

Bit by bit, he let me get a little closer each time. Finally, just a few days ago, he let me slowly gently scratch his head while he ate with me sitting beside him.

The next night, he allowed me to scan him—and I was so happy to find he had a microchip! Even better, it was registered, and all the contact details were current. Yay!

I called the number, and his family was stunned—he’d been missing for two years.
They never thought they’d see him again after he leapt from their first-storey balcony and disappeared—3.7 km from where he was now found.

They were thrilled, rushing down with his carrier and a box of his favourite hand-fed treats.

But Sooty didn’t remember the treats or the carrier,
He didn’t come running when he heard their voices, and the shake of the treat bag didn’t get his attention.

After two years, a cat can change.
He was cautious. He knew now that I had a plan to catch him—and the trust I had built started to slip. He was constantly watching his back, surrounded by strays and wild cats, and now… facing capture.

It took two more nights of quiet patience.
I sat with him, talked softly, fed him dinner, and gave him gentle head pats.

Then, when the moment was right, I scruffed him gently and carried him to the top-loading carrier waiting nearby.
He didn’t fight. Not once.
I always believed he wouldn’t—but doing it right was crucial. One wrong move, and I might have lost him for good.

And then—in that carrier, finally safe—Sooty relaxed.
He pushed back into my pats for the first time.
It felt like he only tolerated touch to get the food previously —but now, finally, I saw him soften.

He remembered what it felt like… to be safe.

This is why microchips matter.
And why it’s so important to keep your NZCAR details up to date.
