Tevra Dog Training 2022

Quality education is the key to safe and enjoyable dog ownership.

Tevra Dog Training works to foster the talents of individuals and their dogs, and guide each person toward their goal in achieving a special bond with their dog whether it is purely for companionship or to extend themselves to competition work.

Another fun day of training today. The mirrors were back out with the handlers being asked to recall their dog, stop the dog halfway then finish the recall, all while having their back to their dog and not using any body language/hand signals etc. When Pete called Vida back after the drop he didn't even realize he moved his hand! Just shows how much we use body language without even realizing.

Great to be back into training today and see all the smiling faces and to hear the chatter and laughter after an unexpected stay in hospital and an op last week causing the cancellation of last weekends classes. I didn't do too much today letting Anne and Imogen lead the way, thanks ladies.
I've said this before, but the people in these classes are amazing, having being so caring and supportive of me not just with this recent event but a few others over the past couple of years. This kindness and support doesn't just end with me either, but continues for fellow class mates and the other instructors as well. Thanks team you and your dogs are legends !!

With the Showgrounds closed in preparation for the Labour weekend A&P show, we moved camp to Gladstone park today. Always good to mix up the venues from time to time.

A couple of vids of some of the dogs doing a stop on recall with the handlers having their backs to the dog. A fairly new exercise for these teams so we gave the handlers a mirror so they could keep an eye on their dog. Great work from everyone today and awesome to be training in the sun compared to last week!

Just had a session with this young girl and her humans, Peggy is a Fox Terrier cross, and is 6mths old. She's super bright and knows how to ring a bell when she needs to go outside for toilet!

This morning I had a quick session with Daisy the Newfoundland and her her Mum. Believe or not Daisy is only 4 and a half months old! A big softy though and not just her fur! Lol Looking forward to having another Newfie in our classes

This afternoon I had a session with Leo the Shih Tzu who turns three early next year. Bit of a breed fact the name Shih Tzu comes from the Mandarin Chinese word for "lion" because this kind of dog was bred to resemble "the lion, as in traditional oriental art". So Leo is an appropriate name. What two breeds are believed to have been used to make the Shih Tzu?

After classes today I had the pleasure of having 10 week old English Staffy, Janey and her human Mum in for a session. A neat wee girl with plenty of energy and very bright. A great fun time!

Just a couple of clips from todays Advanced class, loose leash walking in the drizzle, sending the dogs to their mats and proofing them staying there by running around them etc. The chimpanzee sound you can hear in the background is Cash upset at the other dogs running around while he was in the van!

Huge congratulations to Jill with Bella, Tayla with Banks and Jorgen with Marley on gaining their Tevra Companion Certificate today and moving into the Intermediate class. you have all put a huge amount of training into gaining this, you should all be very proud of your dogs and yourselves.
