🦠 Parvovirus vs. Distemper in Dogs
Both are highly contagious and potentially deadly — but they are very different diseases.
🔴 Parvovirus (Parvo)
✅ Cause: Canine parvovirus (CPV)
✅ How it spreads: F***s, contaminated environments, or direct contact
✅ Who’s at risk: Unvaccinated puppies and dogs
✅ Main symptoms:
Severe vomiting and bloody diarrhea
Lethargy, loss of appetite
Dehydration, fever
Rapid deterioration
⚠️ Highly contagious, very hardy virus — can survive in the environment for months.
🩺 Requires immediate veterinary care.
🟠 Distemper
✅ Cause: Canine distemper virus (CDV)
✅ How it spreads: Airborne (respiratory droplets), or direct contact
✅ Who’s at risk: Unvaccinated puppies and dogs
✅ Main symptoms:
Fever, coughing, nasal and eye discharge
Neurological signs (seizures, twitching)
Vomiting, diarrhea
Thickened paw pads ("hard pad disease")
⚠️ Affects multiple body systems — respiratory, GI, and nervous system.
🩺 Often fatal or causes lasting neurological damage.
💉 Prevention: Vaccination!
Both diseases are preventable with routine puppy and booster vaccines.
Make sure your dog stays up to date — especially during puppyhood and high-risk exposure periods.
