Assist hatching in tortoises is a careful, last-resort process used when a hatchling is clearly struggling to emerge from its egg. In their case, I carried it out due to them well exceeding the expected hatch date.

Soraya (Indian Star Tortoise) basking after a morning misting 🐢

Indian Star Tortoises (Geochelone elegans) get their name from the beautiful star-like patterns on their shells. Native to India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, these herbivorous tortoises naturally become more active after rain in the wild as they wander out to graze.
