✈️ Holiday Season Is Beginning

If you’re planning a holiday with your pet, make sure they're up to date with their vaccinations and worming treatments, they may be required for travel or boarding.

Some pets can also find travelling stressful, whether it’s a long car journey or a flight. The good news is that there are vet-recommended options that can help make travel calmer and more comfortable for them.

If you’re planning a trip, we’re happy to advise on travel health checks and solutions to help your pet travel safely and stress-free.

🌼 Hot Summer Days Ahead!

Did you know that dogs and cats can’t sweat like humans do?

They mainly cool themselves down by panting and releasing small amounts of heat through their paw pads.

Cats are generally a little better adapted to warm weather. Their ancestors lived in desert environments, so many cats cope with heat more efficiently and will naturally find cool resting spots during the day.

Dogs are much less adapted to heat and can overheat more quickly.

A few simple ways to help keep your pets comfortable:
• Make sure fresh water is always available
• Provide plenty of shade and cool resting areas
• Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day
• Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a short time

If your pet shows signs such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or confusion, it may be a sign of heatstroke, and they should be seen by a vet urgently.

🌱 Thorns & Grass Seeds

During the warmer months, grass seeds and thorns can be a common cause of discomfort for dogs and cats.

These small seeds can easily stick to fur and work their way into the skin, paws, or ears. Because of their pointed shape, they can sometimes burrow deeper into the skin and may even require veterinary treatment or surgery to remove.

Signs to watch for include:
• Excessive licking or chewing at paws
• Head shaking or ear discomfort
• Swelling, redness, or small lumps on the skin
• Sudden limping after a walk

Give your pet’s paws, ears, and coat a quick check after walks, especially if they’ve been running through long grass.
