🎃🐾 Happy Halloween from all of us at Oran Vets!

Wishing you and your furry friends a fun, happy and safe Halloween! 🧡🐈‍⬛

31/10/2026

Halloween can be a frightening time for our four-legged friends! While we enjoy the Halloween celebrations, fireworks and loud noises can be really stressful for our dogs.

A little preparation can make a big difference!

🐾 Get walks done early, before it gets dark.
🏡 Keep doors, windows and curtains closed.
🛏️ Create a cosy, quiet space where your dog feels safe.
🎶 Pop on some music or the TV to help drown out the noise.

If your dog gets particularly anxious around fireworks, have a chat with our team at Oran Vet Clinic. We're here to help keep your pets happy, calm and safe.

🎃 Wishing everyone a happy and safe Halloween!

🐾 Meet Sadie – our beautiful, bouncy Labrador! 💛

At just 18 months old, Sadie is usually full of life, energy and plenty of tail wags! 🐶

Sadie is a regular visitor here at Oran Vets, so when she arrived feeling very unwell, dull and not her usual happy self, we knew something wasn't right.

She was suffering from a very worrying case of gastroenteritis, and our team got straight to work to find out what was going on.

🩺 X-rays to rule out a foreign body
🩸 Blood tests to check how her major organs were functioning
🔍 Ultrasound to assess movement in her intestines

After three days of treatment and lots of TLC from our team, Sadie finally turned a corner. ❤️

She started eating again, her tail began wagging, and slowly but surely, her lovely personality started shining through!

We're absolutely delighted to say that Sadie is now back to her beautiful, bouncy self! 🥰🐾

A huge thank you to Sadie's owner for allowing us to share her story. We love seeing our patients happy, healthy and back doing what they do best! 💛

A routine health check is about much more than simply giving your pet a quick once-over. 🩺🐾

It gives us an opportunity to assess their overall health, including their weight and body condition, teeth and gums, heart and lungs, skin and coat, and any other areas that may need attention.

Just as importantly, it's your chance to ask questions and mention any little changes you've noticed at home.

Because you know your pet better than anyone.

To arrange your pet's next appointment, contact the Oran Vets team.

A microchip is only as useful as the information linked to it.

If you've moved house, changed your phone number or changed ownership of a pet, it's worth checking that the contact details registered against their microchip are still correct.

It’s one of those little admin jobs that's very easy to forget - but it could make a huge difference if your pet ever goes missing.

Also be aware of non-iso chips. Always check that the breeder has registered it properly and that you get a cert that allows transfer of details. Common databases are fido.ie, animark.ie IKC.ie and europet.net

Not sure about your pet's microchip? Ask our team for advice.

😂 Every pet has that one funny habit...

Our cat favourites are:
🐾 Zoomies
🐾 Getting stuck in boxes
🐾 Preventing your working by sitting on your laptop
🐾 Lick, Lick and more licks
🐾 Headbutting (favourite!)
🐾 Pretend or real aloofness
🐾 Offerings at the door (not so funny!)

Cats know we know that they don't need us…. so they can really make you work for it ❤️

“I was told there would be treats.” 👀🐾

That moment when the “little trip in the car” starts looking suspiciously familiar…

Don't worry we'll do our best to win them over. Treats may be involved. 😂

Does your pet KNOW when they're on the way to the vet?

🐾 Meet Kate - One of Our Wonderful Registered Veterinary Nurses

We're delighted to introduce you to Kate, one of our dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurses here at Oran Vets.

Kate is known for her kind, caring and compassionate approach, making both pets and their owners feel at ease from the moment they arrive at the clinic. She has a real passion for educating owners, taking the time to explain treatments, answer questions and help families feel confident in caring for their pets at home.

Kate has a particular interest in surgical nursing and has further developed her expertise by completing a Certificate in Surgical Nursing through the Duggan Vet Premier Skills Institute. She plays an important role in ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of care before, during and after surgery.

She graduated from Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Midlands, Athlone with a BSc in Veterinary Nursing and an Honours Degree in Applied Bioscience, and continues to build on her knowledge through ongoing professional development.

Alongside caring for our patients, Kate also supervises and mentors our student veterinary nurses, helping to shape the next generation of veterinary professionals.

We're incredibly lucky to have Kate as part of the Oran Vets team, and we're sure many of our clients (both two-legged and four-legged!) will recognise her friendly smile. 💚🐾

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Oran Vets? 👀🐾

No two days are quite the same!

From welcoming our first patients of the day and preparing consultation rooms to caring for animals behind the scenes, answering your questions and, of course, fitting in the occasional patient cuddle there's always plenty happening.

Here’s a little glimpse into one of the hardest workers who offered to help not so long ago! 💚

🐾 Neutering and spaying provide lifelong health benefits for many pets.

Alongside helping prevent unwanted litters, neutering can also reduce the risk of certain diseases and may improve some unwanted behaviours.

Every pet is different, so we'll always discuss the best timing and options for your individual pet.

Call us to ask us any questions or book in for a free nurse consultation on what are the right steps for your pet.
