Birds lifting high and fast over banks, skimming down across ridges and curling over gullies – there is something wonderfully unpredictable about a partridge day.

From walked-up greys over stubble to redlegs presented over valleys and cover crops, partridge shooting offers challenge, variety and plenty of memorable moments.

Ahead of the season opening tomorrow, Ged Hunston explores what makes a partridge day special 👇

📰 The police inspectorate, HMICFRS, has published its first report into fi****ms licensing since 2015, calling for the current 43-force system to be replaced with a single licensing authority.

BASC has long called for this reform and welcomes the recommendation. But the report also proposes bringing Section 2 shotgun certificates into line with Section 1 fi****ms, and BASC has firmly rejected that.

Our director of fi****ms, Bill Harriman, says no proper evidence has been presented that alignment would improve public safety, and that the recommendation changes nothing as the inspectorate is an advisory body without legislative powers.

Read our initial response to HMICFRS's report 👇

BASC has welcomed HMICFRS's call for a single fi****ms licensing authority but rejected its recommendation on Section 2 shotgun certificates.
