🐴 Equine Exercise of the Week: Lateral Tail Swings 🌟
Lateral tail swings are a gentle, rhythmic mobilisation exercise designed to encourage relaxation and movement through the horse’s back, pelvis and hindquarters.
Stand safely to the side of the horse’s hindquarters and hold the tail below the dock. Gently draw the tail out to one side, then use a slow, controlled, rhythmic pulling and releasing motion to encourage a natural swinging movement through the horse’s body.
The aim is to create a smooth, relaxed rocking motion without forcing the movement.
⚠️ Important: This exercise should only be performed following guidance from a qualified animal therapist, who can assess suitability, technique and any individual contraindications. Never force the tail or continue if the horse shows discomfort or resistance.
