Play Pretend visited Bangor yesterday for what he thought was just a nice day out… and perhaps it was for him… but it was all a little less ‘nice’ for the 4 of us who own him, Dave who trains him and Lee who rode him.

I led him up and was either pulling double in the paddock or planting himself . (Possibly confused that we weren’t at Worcester, Southwell or Market Rasen)
He jumped off at the back and was quite content to stay there … for the entire race. My heart rate leading up almost certainly exceeded his during the race.

In the vain hope of finding him an excuse .. we scoped him, he scored 0 on both counts so couldn’t be any cleaner. Will take bloods and perhaps there is something there we can tinker with 🤞.. otherwise : we just need to try and sweeten him up. 🍬

The track definitely didn’t suit him and I think he sulked that they went off so quickly but it was an extreme sulk… even from him.

That’s the 3rd ever race of his that he hasn’t picked up any prize money and he fell in the other two… so it was a surprise not to see him at least running on in the last half a mile or so.

Alas, he’s been incredibly consistent to this point, he’s only a 5 year old and they’re not machines… as we well know.

He’ll be back 💪… although I wouldn’t be in a rush to lead him up again! 🫣🫠 🥵

Why does it look like I’ve got a banana in my back pocket? What is that? 🧐

Quick of the night (Missy) went to Wolverhampton earlier in the week for a good leg stretch before going on to Dave’s….

She’ll not be long off having her first run of the year now…

I expect she’ll then have a couple of engagements at Worcester Racecourse..

I’d write more but … I really haven’t got time. ⏰

Good photos are all about good angles …

Naturally I know nothing about that which is why I’m not a photographer … nor a model… well, there’s probably a few reasons I’m not a model… but this isn’t about me…

It’s about how photogenic horses are even when the photos are probably taken at the wrong angles… with the wrong lighting and off an iPhone that’s very likely past its best and often refuses to charge nowadays without receiving a healthy bout of iPhone cpr first (blowing its charger hole).

I saw a photo opportunity this morning.. this was the result.
A decent rainbow in the background against a murky sky and a horse with a face like a smacked arse in the foreground.

Missy did not want her photo with a rainbow, she gives absolutely zero f**ks about rainbows nor photos ….
All she was bothered about was the fact it had just had started raining (barely even drizzling) and she just wanted to get inside NOW… 👀

Africa charm and Bitter Ginge making the most of their time on holiday in Hollywood. 🤩 🥰

Both due back early June … much to their dismay I’m sure. 🤣

Magical Hill and Troy have both gone out to the field for a months holiday… They’ll come back in at the end of May.Magic...

Magical Hill and Troy have both gone out to the field for a months holiday…

They’ll come back in at the end of May.

Magical Hill has taken all of his training very well after a 2 year hiatus, after his break he’ll be geared up to run early Autumn.

Frustratingly a dirty scope and the quiet few weeks that was needed following that meant he ran out of time to get a run in on ground that wasn’t going to be too firm for him taking into account his frame.

Troy Story has had a few jumping sessions and all is going well with him, he was the other horse we had that sounded ‘thicker in his wind’ than usual and when he still didn’t sound as clear as he usually does after being on light duties for a week… we made the decision that a months break would also do him the world of good also.

They’re enjoying themselves immensely I’d say….. with about 100 acres of grass to share between the two of them. 🤣🫣 (may be slightly stretching it at 100)…

2 year old Poppy who came to us originally last Autumn to be broken in and came back again for a few weeks of ‘further education’ a few weeks ago… has once again proved to be bold and eager to please.

She’s had a bit of hacking, a bit of cantering, a couple of days going over poles on the ground and learning about where to put her feet before finishing off with a very small jump over a cross pole … and she never asked a single question. 🙋‍♀️
What a star 💫.

It’s obviously given her plenty to think about and she loves nothing more than a snooze after her work.

She’ll not be long until she heads back home for a nice summer holiday in the fields.
