Why do some saddles have one flap, and some have two?

Today, monoflaps are especially popular in eventing and dressage, while plenty of show jumpers still stick with the structure of a dual flap. Both have stuck around for good reason!

The rise of the knee blocks 📈

Once barely there, knee and thigh blocks have grown into one of the most noticeable features of the modern saddle.

As sport horses became bigger-moving and riders looked for more security, deeper seats and larger blocks became increasingly popular particularly with the rise of the monoflap.

When correctly positioned a block can support the rider’s seat. If it is incorrectly positioned, it can actually push the rider’s leg out of balance and restrict the pelvis.
