☀️🐾 Keeping Our Dogs Safe in the Heat! 🐾☀️

With the temperatures set to soar over the next few days, it’s a good time to remind everyone to help their dogs stay safe and comfortable in the heat.

🥵 Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day
☀️ Also think about humidity as an important factor for exercising, it’s not all about temperature (link in the comments)
💧 Make sure plenty of fresh water is always available
🌳 Seek out shade and cool areas to rest, silver alusheets are amazing to put up in the garden to stay underneath
💨 Fans in the house are perfect for keeping a breeze
🔥 Check pavements before walking – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!
🚗 And, of course, never leave dogs in a car, even for a few minutes, travel only if essential and at cooler times
🧊 Frozen treats - water and biscuits, cheese, sausage all frozen in a ziplock bag and then peel the bag off ready for a super licky icepop

As you can see from the photo, our gang have been making the most of the paddle pool to keep cool! 🏊‍♂️💦 Some were more enthusiastic than others, but everyone appreciates the chance to cool off! 🥵

Every dog has their own favourite way of beating the heat. Some love a paddle pool, others prefer a shady snooze, a frozen treat, or stretching out on the coolest floor they can find! 😎

Dudley: “To hunt the field… you must become the field.” 🌾🫡

I think he absolutely nailed the camouflage.

We had a lovely session this week! Previously we’ve been working on Dudley’s hunting, fine-tuning the behaviour and helping him better understand the task. 🫡

This session, we switched gears and started working on auto stops… because not everything that moves needs chasing! 👀

I introduced Dudley to one of my favourite training games for this, and I think it’s fair to say it completely blew his mind (in the best way! 🤯).

He’s gone home with some homework to build on what we’ve started. One thing my clients love is that I have tutorial videos for most of my training games, so they can revisit everything between sessions and keep the progress going. 🎥

Can’t wait to see how Dudley gets on next time! 🐾

And big shout to Dream of clean for an amazing job of a big end of tenancy clean following weeks of boxing & moving, and finding fluff tumbleweeds from mysterious places! 🧼

🐦 Alfie vs Birds 🐦

When Alfie the Collie arrived for his semi-residential training, birds were definitely high on his priority list…

🎬 At the start of training, spotting a pigeon meant one thing: CHASE IT! 💨🐕

Fast forward to today (day 3 of 6) and Alfie has made some brilliant progress!

✅ Calling away from pigeons
✅ Choosing to leave swooping swallows instead of chasing them
✅ Listening and responding around distractions
✅ Lying down calmly at a distance when asked

Now, before anyone points it out… yes, I did have to ask for that final down twice! 😅

In Alfie’s defence, it was incredibly windy and those swallows were putting on quite the aerial display! 🌬️🐦

The important thing isn’t perfection – it’s progress. And Alfie has come a long way from “must chase bird” to “I can listen even when birds are doing their best to tempt me.”

Well done, Alfie 👏🐾

He has ‘enjoyed’ his birthday photoshoot 📸

He’s been on a trip out to the field 🌳

He’s had a birthday brush and trim 💅

and is impatiently waiting for his birthday tea which will involve sardines in tomato sauce, pasta, and his normal meat - all of his favourites! 🐠 🍝 🥩

He will also be opening his presents ball 🥎 partaking in his favourite party trick 🍾
