💨 Recall 💨

🗣️ Recently I had a conversation with another trainer about whether recall should be:

🐾 Name + Recall

OR

🐾 Just Recall

Especially when training a single dog 🐕

Safe to say… we ended up in completely separate camps on this one 🤣

But it got me thinking…

What random/unintentional words does YOUR dog treat like a recall cue? 🏃‍♂️🐕

❓Can you guess which dogs respond to these accidental recalls?❓

🐾 Moo
🐾 Brown & White
🐾 Pony
🐾 Susan
🐾 Moomin
🐾 Young Man

✨ I’ll reveal who is who later ✨

⁉️ What’s your dog’s accidental recall word or phrase? ⁉️

🐾 BANK HOLIDAY MODE: ACTIVATED 🐾

✅ ✅

After returning from the Positive Gundog Conference 🚗

Finch the Grich has officially entered peak relaxation… upside down, legs everywhere, zero responsibilities. Honestly, same energy we’re all aiming for this weekend 🙏

If you need him, he’ll be busy perfecting the art of doing absolutely nothing (with dramatic flair, of course).💁‍♂️

What are your dog’s bank holiday plans? 📝

Are they adventuring 🐾 🌳
snoozing like Finch 💤
or supervising your BBQ like a true professional? 🍗

And most importantly… how do they feature in your plans? ❣️

Post a pic of your dog’s weekend agendas below 🐶💬 📸

Playing our favourite name game at the positive gundog training conference!

This means that we can all be out off lead having a good leg stretch and keep ourselves to ourselves because we are invested in each other and having fun and listening

Stop when I throw
Fetch on your name
Catch your reward on your name

Day one I’ll be doing some teaching!
Eek!

Once I’m back home, the multiple dog workshops will be back

Who’s in?

🚨 public service request alert… 🚨

Does anybody know the current price of diesel at the Shell garage in Billinge please? 👀⛽️

No, I’m not swapping dog training for HGV driving… just trying to work out if it’s cheaper to fill the Disco 🪩 or train the dogs to pull me instead 🐕🚐😂

Any local spies with fresh intel, let me know! 🙌

Dog walkers at a Wigan beauty spot are being asked to keep pets on leads and ‘out of the water’ after the death of a beloved spaniel which became ill shortly after entering a stream 💔

Environmental health officers have started an investigation into possible water contamination at the Three Sisters nature reserve in Ashton after the death of seven-year-old springer spaniel Angel, who died on Wednesday April 8 after a family walk on Easter Monday.

Angel’s owner Tom said Angel was ‘the best friend to everyone in our family’ and her passing has left them ‘devastated’.

He added: “It was a nice weather so I took my lads and Angel to explore the woods near the ‘fairy glen’. You know what spaniels are like, they’re always in and out of water and I think she drank some, but I didn’t think anything of it. Her paws seemed to have bit of a rusty residue on them, but I thought it was just a bit of muddy water.

“After we left Three Sisters and got back in the car, she appeared slightly unwell. At the time, we thought this was motion sickness, as she was not used to travelling by car. “Importantly, she did not consume anything else after drinking from the stream.

“She deteriorated very quickly. After becoming unwell on Monday night refusing food and water, she died on Wednesday afternoon after suffering a seizure. The speed at which she declined was extremely rapid.” 💔

Having been informed of the incident on Friday, Wigan council said they had ‘no definitive findings about the cause at this early stage’.

They added that as a precaution, signs will be put up near where Angel entered the stream to ask that dogs are kept on a lead and out of the water until the investigation is complete.

It’s been a little quiet on here lately… but only because we’ve been very busy behind the scenes having lots of fun! 🐾

Here’s a big catch-up post with photos from our recent classes 📸

We’ve had such a fantastic mix of breeds, ages and experience levels joining us — from the ever-popular Labradors and Spaniels to a Miniature Schnauzer, Dalmatian, Collie, Jack Russell, Collie x Kelpie and even a Spinone! It’s such a great combination, and it really allows us to tailor training to suit each dog while learning from each other too 🧑‍🎓

In class, we’ve been working across a variety of skills and real-life behaviours. As the dogs (and owners!) progress, we’re now incorporating more group work, helping everyone build confidence and develop appropriate social skills around other dogs 🐕

We’ve been focusing on:
• Calm, controlled socialisation
• Working around distractions
• Recall foundations
• Play skills
• Searching and engagement games

And one of our classes has collectively decided they’d love to work on chase… so that’s exactly the direction we’ll be heading in with them — channeling that natural instinct in a fun, positive and controlled way!

It’s been such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere across all groups, with brilliant progress being made every week. I’m so proud of all the dogs and their humans 🐶💛

Keep an eye out — I’ll try not to leave it so long before the next update!

Videos also incoming!

🚨 NEW SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

After years of successfully running dog classes… I’m excited to branch out into something new this half term…

👀 Introducing: Kids Club 👀

An alternative take on “daycare” – but for your small humans instead of your four-legged ones 🐾

Perfect for:
• Socialising – learning appropriate play (no biting… ideally)
• Life skills – fetch the washing and return it… mostly dry
• High energy outlet – seek out your own lost items (shoes, coats, homework… you name it)
• Specialist training options available – close doors, turn lights off and maybe even respond the first time you ask 👏

Sessions will include structured play, enrichment activities, and plenty of rewards (snacks highly encouraged 🍪)

Limited spaces available… mainly based on how much noise I can handle 😅

📩 Message to book your child in before they’re fully booked… or before I come to my senses
