WEEKEND WINS… 🏆🐾 Kohl with a hole 🕳️

Well, Kohl has had a weekend win!

I’m not entirely sure it’s one I’d have put on my own weekend wish list, but he’s clearly rather pleased with himself! 😂

Sometimes our dogs’ idea of a win and ours are two very different things!

We spend so much time celebrating the big training milestones, the perfect recalls, the lovely lead walking and all those things we’ve been working towards.

But what about the other stuff?

The muddy adventure, the new confidence, the best ever sniff, the afternoon spent snoozing, the brilliant game of chase or, apparently, excavating your own personal pit! 🤦‍♀️

So this weekend, let’s celebrate DOG WINS! 🐶

Not necessarily what you set out to achieve, not necessarily what you would have chosen, but something that made your dog’s weekend just that little bit better!

Big, small, silly or unexpected… let’s hear them!

Weekend Wins 🙌🏻

Won’t bore you with the actual day to day wins of plumbing washing machines in and detecting leaks under floorboards …. Ok kind of just did… 🙄

But my win was everyone out and back without getting wet (or blown away!) and not only that …. but a very quick and easy pose for the camera with everyone! 🎃 📷

Winning at dog life 🌧️ 🌬️ 🌪️ 🐾

There’s only one thing for it when you’re socially awkward… 😐

Send in Clarke the party boy! 🎉🖤

Although, it’s not quite as simple as that! 🤓

Clarke has lovely social skills, alongside some pretty handy obedience skills, which make him a brilliant training partner in situations like this 🤓

He’s also very good at telling us what’s REALLY going on behind another dog’s behaviour! 👀

When you’re a young Labrador who comes in with a bit of bravado, but Clarke completely ignores the performance and instead invites you for some bouncy runs together… it soon becomes clear that underneath it all, you’re actually a little unsure and socially awkward!

There were a few lovely little play interactions, but Clarke was quick to break them off before our young friend became overwhelmed.

Play, break, play, break. 🐾

Learning that interactions don’t have to keep escalating, that breaks are a good thing and that being around other dogs can actually be quite enjoyable!

An important skill to teach a young dog, via an competent older dog 🐶

A lovely way to finish the training session, with a little help from Clarke the party boy! 🎉🖤

One week ago… 🧡🥷

It was handover day for Maggie & Cola, AKA the Ginger Ninjas! 🧡

After a week of semi-residential training, working on their lead walking skills, their opinions on passing dogs 🐕 and their off-lead connection, it was time to put those new skills to the test!

And what better way than an evening stroll around Hesketh Park? 🌳

We crossed paths with plenty of dogs, got involved in a lost dog rescue mission 🕵️‍♀️ and even had a few interesting conversations along the way… 😶😂

All in an evening’s work!

Next up is their follow-up session, where we’ll be taking those off-lead skills onto their regular walk and making sure all that lovely progress continues in the real world!

Weekends are for workshops! 🐾👃

And this Sunday was all about putting those noses to work! 🐶

By kind permission, we had the use of a fantastic barn for our scent detection workshop! 🙌

We had a real mix of ages, abilities and experience levels. Some new faces, some familiar faces making a welcome return, and plenty of lovely progression from everyone! 🌟

Different dogs, different challenges, but one thing in common… those noses certainly earned their keep! 👃💪

And, as always, the humans were kept suitably fuelled by lucyelizabakes, tea and coffee! ☕🍰

Because let’s face it, the dogs might work for the scent, but the humans work for the cake! 😂

A brilliant Sunday all round! 🐾

I’ve had a GREAT weekend, and here’s one of the reasons why! 🤩

Remember Bailey the Miniature Schnauzer? 🐶

She came to me for semi-residential training, and this weekend it was time for her follow-up session!

And just LOOK at her go! 👀👏

Walking past dog after dog without reacting, and even managing a rather close encounter at the end! 🌟

It’s lovely to see all that hard work paying off, and Bailey continuing to make such brilliant progress! ❤️

Well done, Bailey! You’re a little superstar! ⭐🐾

If you’re just starting your scent journey, or you’d like to tweak some problems

Dogs are worked one at a time so the workshops are ideal for nervous or reactive dogs

As long as they are able to wait in the car between turns
