๐ I canโt believe Iโm writing this, but our little sassy floofball, Ziggy, has passed away unexpectantly and weโre all in a state of shock and sadness. Ziggy has been with our family since 2020 and was around 6 years old, she has been a huge personality within our herd and a big favourite to many. More human than piggy, Ziggy was a playful and affectionate character, always the first to come over and say hello and a piggy that clearly had a strong trust in us. Weโre devastated and a little lost without her ๐.
There were no signs of illness and Ziggy was buoyant and active all day yesterday. When we came to feed her in the evening, she was having a โdeath napโ. Piggy parents get used to these, when your piggy looks so incredibly relaxed and still that you think theyโve passed and then they jerk back into life. Ziggy had passed over the rainbow bridge, but looked so comfortable and calm, it took a minute to believe it. We can take some comfort in the fact she didnโt suffer long, but the speed at which this has happened and feeling of not being prepared for it, is difficult to get your head around.
Ziggy has been more than a pet companion to us; Ziggy was our friend. This might be strange for people to understand, that a guinea pig can play such an important role in your family and life, on par with any human, but in our case, itโs certainly true. I think a lot of animal people get it, perhaps they fill a little hole that humans donโt always touch.
We are so grateful to have shared a life with you Ziggy, you brought us all incredible joy and we hope we did right by you. You have inspired us to keep going and lifted us when we have been low โ for that we are eternally grateful. Rest easy sweet princess, your legacy will live on and you will not be forgotten. We miss you dearly and love you always. Night night Ziggy. ๐นโค๏ธ๐๐๐ป
