Seasonal Spotlight: The Robin ❄️

As autumn fades and winter settles in, the robin takes centre stage. With its red breast and sweet song, it’s a familiar sight in frosty gardens and festive scenes.

Robins are bold, curious, and often stay close to humans, especially when food is scarce. Their year-round song brings a little joy to even the coldest mornings.

🌟 Fun fact: Robins on Christmas cards date back to Victorian postmen, nicknamed “robins” for their red uniforms!

come to visit between October and March from Iceland and Scandinavia, to feed on tree berries. Identifiable by a creamy stripe over the eye and their namesake red markings under the wing, the redwing is Britain’s smallest thrush.

: If your garden is lacking in naturally occurring berries, try using berry suet to entice them to your tables.

Meal Worms 🐛⁣

High in protein, high in calories, and a fantastic treat for little birds. These tubs of dried mealworms are ideal as you don’t need to transfer them for storage, and because the worms are dried, they last even longer.⁣

A plump bird, the Nuthatch is about the size of a great tit and is identifiable by its blue-grey above and whitish below, with chestnut on its sides and under its tail. It also has a black stripe on its head and a long, black pointed bill. Feeding mainly on insects, it will happily visit bird tables to feast on hazelnuts, acorns and seeds.
