🎨🐾 Look at this gorgeous creation!

Our student nurses, Sophie and Ellie, recently spent some time at a local pottery café and painted this plate featuring the whole Maple Vets team 💕 From vets to nurses (and even a furry friend!), everyone is on here.

We think they’ve done an amazing job capturing the team spirit – can you guess who is who? 👀

🐾💙 Meet Jack! 💙🐾

Jack is a nearly 12-year-old cutie who came in for a dental procedure. His owner opted for pre-anaesthetic blood tests to make sure everything was safe before going ahead — and it’s a good job they did!

The blood results showed some changes with Jack’s kidneys, and whilst checking his blood pressure we also found it was very high. This meant it wouldn’t have been safe for him to have an anaesthetic today. Instead, Jack spent the day with us on fluids, enjoyed a few walks outside, had lots of cuddles, and some playtime with our nurses. He has been the best boy all day and kept everyone smiling 🐶💛

This is a great example of why we recommend pre-anaesthetic bloods and blood pressure checks, especially in older pets. They give us a clearer picture of your pet’s health and help us make the safest decisions for them before any procedure.

Today an all-black male cat was sadly brought into us after being found on Chapel Road, Penketh. We suspect he had been involved in a road traffic accident. Despite everything our team tried, his injuries were just too severe and we had to sadly make the decision to euthanise him, allowing him to pass peacefully.

He was not microchipped and was entire (not neutered). He appeared to be an older boy, with some grey hairs on his face and chest.

We are sharing this post in case he has a family who may be wondering where he is. He will be kept safely with us for 7 days. If you think he may be your cat, or know who he could belong to, please contact the practice.

🐾 Meet Milo! 🐾

This handsome boy came in today for his second vaccination — an important step in protecting him from serious diseases. 💉 Vaccinations help keep pets healthy and safe as they explore the world around them.

We also snapped this adorable photo for our Pet Board in reception, so keep an eye out for his cute face next time you visit! 🐱💙

📢 Don’t forget — our Vaccine Amnesty runs until the end of August! If your pet’s vaccinations have lapsed, you can restart their course for the price of a booster.

Have you ever observed your cat grooming more
frequently during the summer months? You're spot on!

For cats, grooming serves as their natural cooling
mechanism, akin to sweating in humans. By licking
themselves, cats dissipate heat, helping them stay
comfortable in warmer weather.

Enhance your cat’s summer comfort with regular
brushing sessions, which not only aids in temperature
regulation but also minimises hairballs as they shed their winter coat.

Summer brings sunny days and outdoor adventures for our feline friends!

While your cat enjoys lounging in the garden, it's essential to provide a safe and enjoyable environment.

☀️Here are some tips:

🐾Check for Shade: Ensure your garden has shaded areas where your cat can retreat from the sun's heat. 🐾Consider planting trees or installing
umbrellas or awnings to create cool spots.
🐾Safe Plants: Be mindful of the plants in your garden, as some can be toxic to cats if ingested.
🐾Water Source: Place a shallow water bowl or fountain in the garden to keep your cat hydrated during outdoor excursions.
🐾Fence Security: If your garden is enclosed by a fence, regularly inspect it for any gaps or loose areas where your cat could escape.
🐾Ensure the fence is cat-proof to prevent accidental escapes.
🐾Supervised Play: While your cat may enjoy exploring the garden independently, always supervise outdoor time to ensure their safety.
🐾Keep an eye out for potential hazards and intervene if necessary.

With these tips, you can create a cat-friendly garden where your furry friend can enjoy the summer sunshine safely 🌿🐈
