Hillview Home Boarding and training for Dogs

Hillview Home Boarding and training for Dogs Home from home boarding and day care for dogs situated on the edge of the somerset levels. Boarding Licence No.

M:035307 5⭐️ Expires 31st January 2026

Having worked in boarding kennels in the past we know how stressful it can be for both dogs and their owners which is why we have set up the home boarding and day care. During their stay you can rest assured that your furry friend will be in a comfortable home environment that is both fully licenced and insured and treated as one of our own. We are extremely

lucky to be situated on the edge of the somerset levels with acres of fields canal paths and national trust sites very close by which will provide your pets with beautiful and exciting walks during their stay. All breeds and sizes are welcome here but must be child and dog friendly (unless on the dangerous dogs list) and we are also in a position to welcome dogs that are a raw diet as well as other diets.

Reminder no walks, rec sessions or daycare 2nd - 5th May. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend :)

As a small business, we love to support small local businesses where we can. Yesterday, we had these fab items arrive from to try. Lottie is loving the crate bed with cover and is currently choosing the crate over the sofa. Narla will be giving it a try in her crate overnight to see if she feels a bit more comfortable as her current bed is too fluffy and warm now it's getting warmer at night.

A sunny welcome to Miss Maple, who has joined us temporarily for 1-2-1 walks while her regular walker is taking some time off. Such a sweet girlie ❤️.
We have some limited availability for some of our group walks coming up. Please keep an eye out for more info on this next week. For now enjoy the beautiful weather.

Ever get the feeling you are being watched? 🤣😂. I turned around to exit a gate after doing some on lead engagement with Narla next to a field of sheep and this is what I found 😂🤣.

Loving this sunshine. We are a little behind with admin with me being down with a rubbish cold. I am slowly catching up but please give us a nudge by the end of next week if you haven't seen a response.

A very bitter sweet day Thursday saying our goodbyes to Alfred before he grew his wings. Alf has been a huge part of Hillview for the last 6yrs and will leave such a big hole. He was so good with some of the more challenging characters, with his clear and calm boundaries with the other dogs he made so many feel comfortable around him and helped many gain confidence on group walks.
The way his feet would hit water in the field making him instantly turn to turbo speed always made us chuckle while the rest of the dogs wondered how on earth they would ever keep up. With the sun out today we will fondly think of you and the way you would map out the shade on your walks to make the most of the sun worshipping with a quick cool off.

Thank you for learning to trust us enough to share your neck scratches and ear nibbles. Rest easy sweet boy ❤️🐾

Thank you to his lovely humans for trusting us with their special boy. You are very much in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Today, our youngest member of the team Riley (also known as the GSD & Husky whisperer)is 16. As you can see he was far more tolerant of pics being taken when he was younger 😂

Learning doesn't just start and stop with structured training sessions.

Often, many behaviours are learnt and rehearsed outside of these sessions, which means that by the time they become an obvious issue, it's already been rehearsed several times, making it a little harder to stop.

A lot of Narla's training has been working on foundations and boundaries before the teens hit, which will make more complex training later down the line easier.

Today's example is Narla having garden time on her own and learning how to settle, listen to various noises without kicking off, watch the sparrows mooch about the garden without trying to terrorise them like Sky would. And give her the opportunity to take space away from us humans too without setting it up to be stressful for her or ourselves. Although we are a multi dog household, I want Narla to be calm and confident both with the others and on her own, especially given Lottie and Sky are much older than her.

Beautiful morning for a session for play and a bit of lead and recall training for Narla ❤️

With the month of March nearly upon us, we wanted to remind everyone that it is a legal requirement to keep all dogs on a lead on open access land between 1st March and 31st July 🦮

The Quantock Hills has an abundance of lovely dog walks, although you need to be mindful of all wildlife and livestock. Please keep dogs on a short lead to avoid disturbing ground nesting birds and help to protect ewes and lambs. These rules apply whether you are walking your dog in a recreational capacity or a professional one.

Almost half of dog owners believe their pet won’t harm livestock despite nearly two thirds admitting that their dog chases other animals. Nearly four in ten dog owners admit their pet doesn’t always come back when called this means pregnant ewes and newborn lambs are under risk from out-of-control dogs.

🐑 What is defined as ‘worrying’?
This can be a physical attack as well as chasing in such a way as may reasonably be expected to cause injury or suffering, or being at large in an area containing livestock.

🐕 Who can be found guilty of an offence?
Section 1 of the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 states that the owner of the dog or anyone else who is in charge of the dog at the time can be found guilty of a livestock worrying offence.

🚓 What power do the police have?
The Act enables police to seize and detain any dog where there is reasonable cause to believe that a dog has been worrying livestock, together with powers to issue a warrant to search property to identify a dog suspected of livestock worrying.

💷 What is the penalty for livestock worrying?
Offenders can be penalised with a fine of up to £1,000.
