As June marks National Microchipping Month, we'd like to ask every pet owner to take five minutes to check their details.
So far in 2026, over 90 stray animals have come into our centre. One of the biggest reasons animals aren't reunited quickly is because their microchip details are missing, incorrect, or out of date.
🐾 If your pet goes missing, an up-to-date microchip can help them get home quickly and safely.
🐾 If your pet is found injured or requires emergency veterinary treatment while missing, it allows professionals to contact you as soon as possible.
🐾 In situations where ownership is disputed, a registered microchip can help establish ownership quickly and confidently. Without this, proving ownership can become much more complicated and time-consuming.
🐾 It is also a legal requirement for dogs and cats in England to be microchipped.
The good news? Checking and updating your details is usually quick and easy through your microchip database provider.
Please don't assume your details are correct. If you've changed your phone number, moved house, or transferred ownership of a pet, now is the perfect time to check.
A five-minute job today could make all the difference if your pet ever goes missing tomorrow❤️

With temperatures rising, please remember that hot weather can be extremely dangerous for our dogs. 🐶☀️

Dogs can’t cool themselves down like we can, and heatstroke can happen very quickly — even on days that may not feel “too hot” to us.

Please help keep your pets safe by:
💧 Providing plenty of fresh, cool water
🌳 Making sure they always have access to shade
🐾 Avoiding hot pavements that can burn paws
🚗 Never leaving dogs in cars — not even for a few minutes
🌅 Walking early in the morning or later in the evening

Signs of heatstroke can include:
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Weakness or lethargy
⚠️ Vomiting or collapse

If you suspect heatstroke, move your dog somewhere cool, offer small amounts of water and contact your vet immediately.

Please share to help spread awareness and keep dogs safe this summer. ❤️

🐾 Vet Nurse Awareness Month 🐾

Next up… meet Fiona!

“Hi, I’m Fiona, one of the Registered Veterinary Nurses here at St Giles Vets.

Before becoming an RVN, I worked as a teacher, which gave me a real passion for education and supporting others. I now love helping owners understand their pets’ health and making sure both pets and people feel as comfortable and supported as possible during their visits.

I have a special interest in feline nursing and enjoy all aspects of veterinary care, from inpatient care and anaesthesia to preventive healthcare and client education. I also work closely with the rescue side of the centre, helping with health checks, arranging check-ups, and booking procedures. I love meeting all our new rescues and following their journeys as they settle into their forever homes.

At home, I’m a proud owner of four cats, so I know just how important our pets are as family members. I feel very lucky to work in a profession that allows me to care for animals every day and make a difference to their wellbeing.”

Thank you, Fiona, for your knowledge, compassion, and the incredible care you give to both animals and their owners 🐾💙

Stay tuned as we continue to introduce more of our amazing team! ✨
