We recently had the pleasure of welcoming , Jamie Smart, to the centre as a prizewinner in the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2024. Here are just a few of the fantastic photos she took of our animals; we're blown away by her talent at such a young age and can't wait to watch her progress!
If you are or know of a young person with a keen eye, this year's competition is now open for entries: https://young.rspca.org.uk/

This week, our sweet Connie found her forever home—and just look at her now! She’s already making herself comfortable and stealing hearts. Moments like this are what make everything we do worthwhile—knowing our animals are safe, loved, and right where they belong ❤

Petunia pulls out all the stops!
Having been with us for 6 months now, it's hard to not see Petunia as a favourite amongst the Cattery. All of our volunteers and work experience students gravitate towards her during socialisation sessions, she's so delightful to spend time with!
On a recent visit to the centre, society photographer Emma got to teaching Petunia some little tricks; could they be the key to winning over a new owner?
Maisie's been thoroughly enjoying spending time with staff and volunteers here at the centre but is growing rather tired of waiting for her knight in shining armour to sweep her off her feet.
This darling girl is affectionate, lively and bursting with character; we can't believe she hasn't been snapped up yet.
❤A wonderful update on our lovely girl Luna, who was recently adopted. We couldn't be happier for her and her new family ❤
"We have been amazed at how well she has coped with all the changes in her life over the last few days! It's like she has always been here.
Luna has well and truly made herself at home and is very relaxed both in the house and in the garden, she has taken it upon herself to be responsible for patrolling the parameter fence to make sure there are no rats using her garden. This seems to have been effective as although she will go and check several times a day she now comes away very quickly.
We ventured out for her first walk yesterday and although she pulled a bit on the way out she was very responsive to slowing down for treats on the way back. Luna met two other dogs on the walk and was keen to say hello which she did very nicely.
Luna has settled in to the night time routine well, so much so that she didn't actually get up to see me instantly this morning, she has also been clean inside since she arrived.
Luna has fit in perfectly and we are very happy to have her!"

Ana and Elias are officially our longest stay rabbits. 💔
Elias came to us in September 2024, alone and in need of some TLC and companionship. He spent a month in our care searching for a home with no luck, before Ana was brought in to the centre in search of a better life. We couldn't believe how perfect the match was, they even look like they belong together!
After a successful bonding process, Ana and Elias have now been searching for a new home together for 6 months with no signs of adoption any time soon.
Whilst they are being cared for in a foster home to give them the 1:1 attention they need, they're really looking for the happy ending in a forever home that they deserve.
Since arriving at the centre, Valerie has completely stolen our hearts. She’s a gentle giant in the making, full of charm and absolutely loving all the attention she’s been getting.
Now, she’s ready to take the next step — finding a loving forever home where she can begin her journey with a family of her own. 🏡
While experience with Kangals isn’t essential, it is really important that potential adopters take the time to thoroughly research this incredible breed. Kangals are loyal, intelligent, and protective, but they also come with specific needs — including the space, time, and financial commitment required for a large breed like Valerie.
She’s brought so much joy to our team, and we know she’ll do the same for the lucky person or family who opens their heart and home to her.
Let’s find this gorgeous girl the home she deserves. 💕

Milly and Pixie are enjoying some respite in a foster home whilst they wait patiently for a new home to come along. After their first week they have settled well and we've had an update from their fosterer:
"They are doing really well and are both very happy on their beds, but have also been out for a wander around this morning; lots of sniffing and exploring behind the sofa. They are lovely!"

Here at the RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre, most of our animals have been rescued from neglect and bad treatment by their previous owners.
We look after dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and many other types of small domestic animals - at any one time we could be caring for over 150 animals. We spend weeks, sometimes months, rehabilitating them and preparing them for a new life and a second chance.
It costs the RSPCA over £1000 a day to run the West Hatch Animal Centre. The RSPCA relies entirely on kind donations from people like you.
The RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre takes in animals from RSPCA Inspectors only. The demand for spaces for the animals they bring to us is ever increasing and we are therefore unable to accept unwanted pets or stray animals from members of the public. We are able to provide information on centres that can re-home animals for the public on request.
OUR NATIONAL CRUELTY LINE IS STILL OPERATING: 0300 1234 999. If you have a badly injured stray or wild animal please call your local vet for advice. Please do not attend a vet practice without calling first. To contact the Animal Centre please email [email protected] & to contact the Wildlife Centre please email [email protected]. Please be aware we are working on reduced staff numbers and will endeavour to reply as soon as we can. Our phone lines are not being answered at present. Although our centre remains closed to the public, we are now able to rehome animals again and have made some temporary changes to the way we do things. Please visit the RSPCA website for more information.
