Nutty's been helping with the gardening today... 🌿

Or at least that's what she'd like us to believe! 😆

She was very pleased to receive a bundle of cleavers, better known as sticky w**d, and it didn't take long before she got stuck in. Judging by the size of that mouthful, it's safe to say it's one of her favourite seasonal treats!

Many horses enjoy browsing on cleavers during the summer months. As well as providing enrichment and encouraging natural foraging behaviour, they're packed with moisture and naturally occurring nutrients.

Of course, we're pretty sure Nutty isn't thinking about any of that...

She just knows it tastes good! 😋🐴💚

Pippa, our lovely Shire mare, needs a little extra care and regular monitoring due to ongoing health issues, while Bailey and Churchill are our two gentle Clydesdales. Looking at this photo, we’re not entirely convinced they’re interested in each other – perhaps they’re all just convinced the grass is greener on the other side! 😆🌿

☀️ Hot days like today mean extra work behind the scenes for our small team of volunteers. With temperatures set to be one of the hottest of the year, we work tirelessly to help keep the animals in our care as comfortable and safe as possible. 💚

That means constantly topping up water buckets and troughs, moving smaller animals into cooler shaded areas, putting fans out where we can, providing enrichment to help keep everyone comfortable… and yes, even sunscreening the pigs! 🐷🧴☀️

A lot of extra time, effort and supplies go into keeping everyone happy during hot weather, but seeing them comfortable and enjoying their day makes it all worthwhile.

☀️ We’re OPEN this Bank Holiday week — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday! 🐴🐐🦙

Come and spend some time with us and enjoy LOTS of hands-on activities for all ages, with plenty to get involved with around the sanctuary. Meet the animals, enjoy pony grooming, animal handling, llama walking and much more throughout the day.

Need to cool down? Our café will also be stocked with ice creams, cold drinks and refreshments 🍦🥤

Please note: Due to the extreme heat forecast on Monday, some activities may be limited or adjusted for the welfare of our animals. Keeping the animals comfortable and safe will always come first, and we’re sure everyone understands this. 💚

Yesterday, we had local MP for Boston and Skegness stop by and visit us. Regardless of political opinions, it’s always good to have the opportunity to talk about the realities and challenges of running a small volunteer-run sanctuary like ours.

If you’re looking for a relaxed afternoon out with the family, our Sanctuary Saturdays offer a more personal, hands-on experience with the animals in our care. Numbers are kept limited so the sessions stay calm, friendly, and enjoyable for all ages.

Activities on the day may include:
• Pony grooming
• Llama walking
• Ferret handling
• Meeting and helping feed some of our resident animals
• Short animal talks from our team

Every visit helps support the ongoing care of our sanctuary animals, 365 days a year 🐾
