💪🐴 A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteer Pete who has been working so hard this week giving our stables a fresh, clean, and modern look with a brand-new coat of paint! 🎨✨

He’s spent several days hard at work, and the difference is amazing — bright, tidy, and welcoming for both our animals and visitors. We still have more stables to paint, so if anyone would like to lend a hand, we’d be very grateful.

Simple maintenance like this is hugely important to our sanctuary — it helps keep the animals safe and comfortable, reduces wear and tear on the buildings, and creates a clean, hygienic environment for everyone. 🐎🐐🐾

🐴 Pippa Update 🐴

We’re cautiously optimistic… Pippa seems to be turning a corner! 💛

She’s been showing small signs of improvement each day. On Saturday night (or the early hours of Sunday), she decided to pull out her own catheter — naughty girl! But maybe that was her way of saying she’s feeling a little stronger.

The brilliant team at Oakham Equine Hospital agreed, and they’ve left it out. She’s now drinking more on her own and no longer needs fluids through an IV.

She’s not out of the woods just yet — she still has diarrhoea, but it’s slowly beginning to improve.

We’re so grateful for all your support, kind words, and healing thoughts — please keep them coming.

If you’ve just discovered Pippa’s story, she was rushed to Oakham for emergency treatment last week and is currently racking up a vet bill of up to £7,000. We urgently need help to cover the cost of her care.

Many people have been asking if they spotted us and our horses at this year’s Horncastle Horse Fair. Sadly, we weren’t part of the line-up this time — after proudly attending last year, we spent the day cheering from the sidelines instead. ❤️🐴

From what we’ve heard, it was a wonderful event and we’d like to congratulate everyone involved for keeping this special tradition alive. 😊

Our sister charity shop, Hooftastic Finds in Horncastle, still joined in the spirit of the occasion by proudly sharing a piece of our own heritage — the story of Cracker, the former world’s tallest Shire horse who once lived at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre. 🐴

As a small, local horse charity, we rely on the kindness and support of our community to keep going. Opportunities to share our animals, history, and work mean the world to us — and we truly hope to be part of more local celebrations in the future ❤️

🚨 URGENT APPEAL – HELP US WITH PIPPA’S EMERGENCY HOSPITAL BILL 🚨

Our beautiful Shire horse, Pippa, has been rushed to Oakham Equine Hospital for intensive treatment. Her care is expected to cost up to £7,000 — an unexpected bill that we simply can’t cover without your help.

Pippa has only been with us for a couple of months, but she’s already stolen the hearts of everyone at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre. She’s been on box rest for a leg infection, but earlier this week her condition worsened. After urgent treatment from our vets, she was transferred to hospital the very next morning.

Pippa has a history of stomach ulcers, and a combination of her current medication and other complications has left her stomach severely upset. She is now hooked up to fluids, with the incredible team at Oakham Equine Hospital doing all they can to help her recover.

The Northcote Heavy Horse Centre is run entirely by unpaid volunteers — from our trustees and management to the daily animal care team. We rely solely on donations to care for our animals, and emergencies like this place a huge strain on our already stretched finances.

Sadly, this is not the first time we’ve faced such a challenge. Just last year, our much-loved Nutty spent a week in hospital, costing thousands. Emergencies like these are part of our promise to give every animal the best life possible — but we can’t do it without you.

We urgently need your support now, more than ever.
