A bits and bobs day of completing the mundane task of sorting through old fencing (with a nice view at least) while the husband begins preparing a space we are planning on adaptating.

Our 4 week old ducklings (stinking out our living room) are now ready for the outside world (with good weather). Their feathers are starting to come through, and they've outgrown the brood box. We bought, second hand, a dog kennel, which has now been converted to the "Duck den."
As the ducklings are still so young and vulnerable, they will remain enclosed in this space until they are older.
More work is to be completed on "Duck Mountain", however, this is a fantastic start!

We are a first gen smallholding family in Lincolnshire. We plan to share our journey, the good, the bad, the lessons learnt along the way.

Mixed feelings today....

We had 3 successful hatches from our chickens eggs, only one survived.
Without knowing the full history of our girls and Cockerell we knew this could be a risk, however, did not expect such poor results.

Thankfully, we have a broody hen whom we have partnered up woth our lonely chick, you can see how they get on through our new YouTube channel...

Going forward, we will not risk another attempt at hatching and will locate a reputable breeder for flock expansion.
A lesson and example for why responsible breeding is so important.
