☀️ Now summer is finally here, these are some top tips for keeping your dogs cool and preventing heat stroke ☀️🔥
☀️ Walk your dog during the cooler times of the day, early in the morning and late evening. Or even dont walk them at all if its very hot! Missing one walk will not harm your pets but one walk in the heat could!
☀️ Watch your pet for signs of over-heating, including heavy panting and loss of energy, If you recognise these signs when on a walk, stop, find a shady spot and give your dog water.
☀️ Make sure your dog has access to clean fresh water.
☀️ Carry water and a bowl with you on walks.
☀️ Never leave your dog alone in a car, even with the windows open!
☀️ Make cooling tasty treats by making ice cubes with your dog’s favourite food inside or stuff a Kong and pop it in the freezer.
☀️ Use paddling pools in the garden for your dogs to have a dip in and cool off, ideally put these in a shaded area to keep the water cool.
☀️ Use cooling mats and bandanas to help cool them down.
🔥 Don't use wet towels to cool your pets down! These seem like a good idea but can actually insulate them instead and make them hotter!
🔥🔥Be very vigilant with short nosed dogs such as boxers, pugs, bull dogs, French bull dogs, older dogs, and overweight dogs. These dogs can get heatstroke simply by running around.
