🌸Baby Shower Bliss for Our Lovely Vikki 🌸

This afternoon the Abbey Vets team downed tools and gathered for a very special celebration — Vikki’s Baby Shower. We shared delicious food, plenty of laughs, and a few competitive games (because what’s a team event without a bit of friendly rivalry).

Next week will be Vikki’s last week with us before she heads off on her maternity leave, and while we’ll miss her hugely, we’re all so excited for this next chapter.

Vikki, we wish you all the love, rest, and happiness as you get ready to welcome your little one. We can’t wait to meet Baby Bump very soon! 💕💙👶✨

✨🐾 Shiny New Tech Alert! Our Friends at Haygate Have a CT Scanner!🐾✨

We’re sending a massive congratulations to our friends over at Haygate Veterinary Centre on the arrival of their brand‑new, shiny CT scanner, and yes, we’re just as excited as they are.

So… what is a CT scanner, and why is it such a big deal?

A CT (Computed Tomography) scanner is like the superhero version of an X‑ray.
Instead of taking a single picture, it takes hundreds of images in thin slices, then stacks them together to create a detailed 3D view of what’s going on inside your pet. It helps vets spot things that ordinary X‑rays can miss — from tiny fractures and hidden tumours to complex internal issues.

And here’s the brilliant part…
Because we’re part of the CVS family, we have access to incredible facilities like this across the group. That means when one of our patients needs advanced imaging, we can get them referred quickly and easily — with cutting‑edge diagnostics right at our fingertips.

We’re so proud to work alongside practices like Haygate who are constantly investing in the very best for pets and their people. 💛🐶🐱

If you’d like to know more about when CT imaging might be recommended for your pet, just give us a shout, we’re always happy to chat.

🧡🐶 As Cute As a Button🐶🧡

Stop everything, the cuteness alert button has been well and truly pressed, because Button came to see us today and she is exactly as adorable as her name.

She popped in for her weigh & worm with our nurse, and honestly… she trotted into the consult room like a tiny professional. No hesitation, no nerves, just pure puppy confidence and a whole lot of charm.

Button is one of our Puppy School graduates, and she absolutely aced the 3‑week programme. Watching her confidence blossom, especially in the veterinary environment has been such a joy. Today she hopped onto the consult table like it was her favourite place in the world.

We can’t wait to see you again, Button.
Keep being your bright, brave, button‑sized bundle of joy 🧡🐾

A Very Special Day With Our Guide Dog Friends.

Between the bustle of consults, cuddles, and the occasional biscuit thief, our team had the absolute pleasure of popping over to the Guide Dogs open day, and what a heart melting visit it was.

We’re incredibly lucky to have their centre just around the corner from the practice. Every day we catch glimpses of the quiet magic that happens there, the patient training, the gentle encouragement, the joyful tail wags, and the extraordinary partnerships forming between dogs and their handlers.

Seeing it up close today reminded us just how much dedication goes into preparing these good boys and girls for the life‑changing work they’ll go on to do.
The handlers, trainers, volunteers, you’re all doing an amazing job. And the dogs? Well, they’re simply exceptional.

To everyone involved: well done.
You’re not just training dogs, you’re shaping independence, confidence, and companionship for the people who will one day rely on them. And that’s something truly special.

🩺🤣 The ONE Rule You Don’t Break in The Vet World…🤣🩺**

We’re a chilled, easy‑going bunch… until someone lays a finger on a nurse’s pouch.
Pens? Sacred.
Scissors? Guarded like crown jewels.
Anything in between? Touch it and you’ll meet a level of silent judgement you didn’t know existed.

Today’s TikTok is a public service announcement:
Do. Not. Touch. The. Nurse’s. Pouch.
We love you… but we love our stationery more 😌✏️✨

🎬 POV: “I’m a Veterinary Nurse, I’m a…” — and honestly, Kim K could never 🙈

We’ve hopped on the latest social media trend to show you what our vet nurses really do… because when you’re brilliant at your job, you don’t just wear one hat, you wear about twelve before lunchtime.

“I’m a theatre nurse, I’m an X‑ray nurse, I’m a consulting nurse, I’m a lab nurse…”
And that’s just the warm‑up act.

Our nurses juggle more roles than a Netflix cast list, monitoring anaesthetics, comforting worried owners, running bloods, placing catheters, calming nervous pets, teaching students, and somehow still greeting everyone with a cheery smile that says, “Yes, I can do that too.”

Some even come with bonus talents… like Seren and her award‑worthy acting skills. Oscar committee, take notes.

Vet Nurse Awareness Month is the perfect time to shout about the superheroes behind the scenes.
Jo, Seren, Vikki and Eleanor — thank you for being the multitasking, tail‑wag‑soothing, life‑saving legends you are. We appreciate you more than you know. 💛🐾

🐾📨 Luna’s Morning Admin: Checking Her Peemail!📨🐾

This morning on her walk, Luna was very busy catching up on her inbox —
not emails… p*emails.

Every lamppost, every blade of grass, every suspiciously interesting twig had a message waiting for her. And yes, she replied to several. Thoroughly.

But behind the comedy, there’s something really important going on…

👃💛 Sniffing Isn’t a Distraction — It’s a Dog’s Superpower

For dogs, sniffing is how they understand the world.
While we rely on our eyes, dogs rely on their noses — and they’re incredibly good at it.

When your dog stops to sniff another dog’s wee, they’re not being gross.
They’re gathering information like a tiny furry detective.

From a single sniff, they can learn things like:
- Who was here
- Their s*x and age
- If they’re stressed or relaxed
- If they’re in season
- How long ago they passed by

It’s basically social media… but smellier.

👅 And the Licking? Not Gross — Just Science

Sometimes you might see your dog lick a spot of p*e.
Before you recoil, here’s the truth:

They’re using a special sensory structure called the Jacobson’s organ (also known as the vomeronasal organ).
It sits just behind the top front teeth and helps dogs analyse pheromones — chemical messages that carry extra information.

That little lick helps “file” the scent into the organ so they can decode it more accurately.
Think of it as clicking “open full message”.

🌿🐶 So Let Them Sniff!

Sniffing:
- Reduces stress
- Provides mental enrichment
- Helps dogs feel safe and informed
- Makes walks more fulfilling

A sniffy walk is a happy walk.

So next time your dog pauses to check their p*email, let them take their time.
They’re not being stubborn — they’re doing important admin.
