🐾 Considering Castration for Your Dog? 🐾

Did you know there is a non-surgical option available?

At Redcar Vets we offer chemical castration, a temporary implant that reduces testosterone levels without the need for surgery or a general anaesthetic.

Chemical castration can be beneficial for dogs who:

✔ Show hormone-driven behaviours such as roaming, mounting or marking
✔ Are being assessed to see if castration may improve behaviour
✔ May not be suitable for surgery or general anaesthesia
✔ Owners who want to try a reversible option before committing to surgical castration

The implant works by gradually lowering testosterone levels, with effects typically lasting 6–12 months depending on the implant used.

🌸 Spring poison alert - Lillies 🌸

Lilies may be beautiful, but they are extremely poisonous to our pets – especially cats. Even a small amount (like pollen on their fur, a nibble of a leaf, or drinking water from a vase) can cause serious kidney failure.

⚠️ Important reminders:
• Keep lilies well out of reach of pets
• Avoid having them in homes with cats altogether
• Be mindful of pollen falling onto surfaces or fur

🐾 Signs to watch for:
Vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, drooling
If you think your pet has come into contact with lilies, contact us immediately.

We were thrilled to attend the The Northern Echo BUSINESSiQ North East 2026 Awards last night. What an incredible night - the room was filled with spectacular businesses from all over the North East and we were proud to be amongst those shortlisted for an award.

Huge thanks to Gavin Foster for such a spectacular evening, Alfie Joey, a brilliant host (and also photographer!) and all the sponsors of the awards, especially WE ARE UMi.

🐾 Brave Bears Big Adventure 🐾

We had a very special visitor back in practice today - the lovely Bear 💙. Some of you might remember him as he was born right here at the practice back in January, so he truly holds a special place in our hearts and is a firm favourite with all the team 🐻.

After an adventurous trip exploring the woods, poor Bear took a tumble down an embankment and hurt his paw. His worried family brought him straight to see us, where he was so brave and well behaved ⭐️🐶

After taking some x rays and a full examination, we are pleased to say there were no breaks or fractures 🎉

With some rest, pain relief and plenty of cuddles, Bear should be back to his woodland adventures in no time at all.

Get well soon Bear, we are all rooting for you 💜

🐾 Today is National Lost Dog Day 🐾

Every year, thousands of dogs go missing, leaving families worried and hearts broken 💔😢

Microchipping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your dog. A tiny chip, about the size of a grain of rice, can help vets, dog wardens and rescue centres quickly identify your pet and reunite you if they ever get lost. It’s quick, safe and lasts a lifetime.

Remember:
✔️Keep contact details up to date
✔️ If you move address or change phone number update your pets microchip
✔️ Make sure your dog wears a collar and ID tag
✔️ Check your garden and gates are secure

If you’re unsure whether your dog is microchipped, we are here to help. A simple scan with a microchip scanner can confirm
