That classic “dog breath” smell?
It’s often early dental disease not just something to put up with!

🦷 Plaque → tartar → gum inflammation → infection

And most of this is happening below the gumline, where you can’t see it! The earlier we get our hands on these teeth the better!

This is why regular oral examinations are so important.
We’re not just looking at the teeth we’re assessing the gums, pockets, pain, and overall oral health.

And when we do a proper scale and polish (no extractions needed here today!)
✨ It’s one of the MOST satisfying transformations
✨ Healthier gums
✨ Cleaner teeth
✨ Fresher breath
✨ Happier, more comfortable dogs

⚠️ FYI: Scaling and polishing should only ever be done under anaesthesia
Because:
• We need to clean under the gumline (where disease lives)
• It allows a full, pain-free oral exam
• Teeth can be properly polished to slow plaque return
• It’s the only way to do it thoroughly and safely

This is why we do not recommend letting anybody else attempt to clean your pets teeth!
A quick surface clean might make teeth look nicer…
…but it won’t treat the disease causing that smell.

🧠 Fresh breath = healthy mouth

If your dog’s breath has changed, it’s worth getting it checked with us!

🚫 MYTH: “My dog’s teeth are fine because they’re eating and not in pain.”

✅ FACT: Dental disease is often silent.

By the time pets stop eating or show obvious pain…
👉 the disease is usually advanced

Most dogs and cats:
• Still eat with severe dental pain
• Hide discomfort incredibly well
• Adapt to chronic disease without obvious signs

That “normal” breath?
That slight tartar?
That bit of redness?
🚩 It’s often early periodontal disease

And here’s the reality:
🦷 Over 80% of dogs over age 3 have some level of dental disease

So what actually helps?

✔️ Regular dental checks
✔️ Professional cleaning under anaesthetic
✔️ Daily home care (brushing is gold standard)

Because once disease is under the gum line…
👉 it’s not something chews or sprays can fix

We do comprehensive oral health assessments daily.

Including in this ‘package’ your pet has a
Pre operative assessment, bloodwork, anaesthesia, full mouth dental radiography, local anaesthetic, dental probing and charting (what teeth are missing, what teeth have disease and what tooth needs extracting) and dental extractions. All analgesia is included as well as post operative checks.

This is undertaken by out experienced vets!

Give us a call to book a dental check if you’re worried about your pets mouth and don’t forget, eating is survival and doesn’t mean your pet is not experiencing pain.
