**☀️ Keeping Pets Cool This Summer 🐾**
As temperatures rise, it’s important to help our pets stay safe and comfortable in the sun.
✅ **How to keep pets cool:**
* Provide plenty of fresh, cool water at all times.
* Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day (early morning or late evening).
* Ensure access to shade when outdoors.
* Use cooling mats, damp towels, or pet-safe paddling pools.
* Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse.
❌ **What to avoid:**
* Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
* Avoid exercising pets during the hottest part of the day.
* Don't walk dogs on hot pavements—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
* Avoid excessive sun exposure, especially for pets with light-coloured skin or thin coats.
* Don't assume pets will stop when they're overheating—many dogs will keep playing despite the risk.
🚨 **Heatstroke is a veterinary emergency.** If you suspect your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, begin cooling with cool (not ice-cold) water, and contact your veterinary practice immediately.
Keep your furry friends safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly! 🌞🐕🐈
