BLUETONGUE IN CUMBRIA

A case of Bluetongue has been identified in a cow in Cumbria following a pre-movement test.

The risk of transmission via infected midges remains very high.

The best way to protect your cattle and sheep is by vaccination. Please give the surgery a ring to order yours.

Note: the dose of Syvazul in cattle has been changed which will make a bottle go further.

Why it pays to be proactive about your pet’s teeth! 🦷

Bella was brought to us because she had the tell-tale sign of bad breath. She had a lot of plaque on her teeth so we booked her in for a dental procedure under anaesthetic. While she was under, we found one loose tooth which was extracted and we scaled and polished the remaining teeth. She bounced back to her normal self the same day as the procedure.

Being proactive meant:

✅ Better welfare: Bella hadn’t got to the stage of struggling with a very painful or infected mouth

✅ A better procedure: Bella was only under for less than an hour, did not need complicated extraction techniques or x-rays and recovered very quickly

✅ Better for your pocket: Bella’s procedure cost less than a third of what a more advanced procedure would have done. Plus it was a planned procedure rather than an urgent case.

👀 Look out for those tell-tale early signs that your pet’s teeth may need attention:

🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Messy eating

And don’t leave it too late!
