🚨 RED WEATHER WARNING – KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE IN THE HEAT 🚨

With temperatures rising, it's important to remember that heatstroke can affect pets very quickly and can become life-threatening.

🐾 Know the warning signs:
β€’ Excessive panting
β€’ Vomiting
β€’ Collapse
β€’ Seizures

❄️ If you suspect heatstroke:
βœ… Cool your pet immediately by continuously pouring cold water over them for several minutes.
❌ Do not use a cold wet towel, as it can trap heat.
☎️ Contact a vet straight away.

🌑️ Help keep your pets cool:
πŸ’§ Plenty of fresh water
🧊 Ice cubes in water
πŸ›οΈ Cooling mats
πŸŒ€ Fans
πŸ– Frozen dog or cat broth treats

πŸ• Dog owners: Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day. If a walk is necessary, go out early in the morning or later in the evening. Remember: if the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.

πŸ₯ We are open as usual throughout the hot weather period. If you're concerned about your pet, please contact us for advice.

🐱✨ Patient Update: Meet Sanmao! ✨🐱

Recently, Sanmao visited the team at Chelsea Veterinary Surgery for a blood test, dental X-rays, and a dental procedure to help improve their oral health.

Following a thorough assessment and dental imaging, some teeth were identified as needing extraction to relieve discomfort and prevent future dental problems. The procedure was carried out by our veterinary surgeon Daniel, assisted by our Clinical Veterinary Care Assistant Vicki, who helped ensure Sanmao received the very best care throughout their visit. 🦷❀️

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in cats, and it can often go unnoticed as our feline friends are experts at hiding discomfort. Regular dental checks can make a huge difference to their health, comfort, and quality of life.

We're pleased to say that Sanmao is recovering well and we wish them a smooth and speedy recovery at home. 🐾

A big thank you to Sanmao's family for trusting us with their care.

πŸ“ž If you're concerned about your cat's dental health or would like to book a dental check-up, our team is always happy to help.

🐾 Meet Lumi! 🐾

Lumi recently visited the team at Chelsea Veterinary Surgery after experiencing diarrhoea. While digestive upsets are common in dogs, they can sometimes indicate an underlying health issue and shouldn't be ignored, especially if symptoms persist.

Thankfully, Lumi received a thorough examination from our veterinary team, and we're pleased to report that they are on the road to recovery. ❀️

If your dog develops diarrhoea, keep an eye out for signs such as:
πŸ”Ή Vomiting
πŸ”Ή Lethargy
πŸ”Ή Loss of appetite
πŸ”Ή Blood in the stool
πŸ”Ή Signs of dehydration

If you're concerned about your pet's health, don't wait to seek advice. Early assessment can help identify problems before they become more serious.

We'd like to thank Lumi and their family for allowing us to share their story and wish them a speedy return to full health! πŸΆπŸ’™

πŸ“ž If your pet is unwell or you're worried about any symptoms, our team is here to help.

🚨 RED WEATHER WARNING – KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE IN THE EXTREME HEAT 🚨

The UK is experiencing dangerously high temperatures this week, and pets are at serious risk of heatstroke, which can become life-threatening very quickly.

⚠️ Symptoms of Heatstroke
β€’ Excessive panting
β€’ Vomiting
β€’ Collapse
β€’ Seizures

πŸš‘ If you suspect heatstroke, act IMMEDIATELY
βœ… Cool your pet straight away and fast
βœ… Continuously pour cold water over their body for several minutes
❌ Do NOT place a cold, wet towel over them, as this can trap heat and slow cooling
βœ… Contact your vet and travel to the clinic immediately

🌑️ How to Help Keep Your Pet Cool
🧊 Add ice cubes to their water bowl
🧊 Provide cooling mats
πŸŒ€ Use fans to improve airflow
πŸ– Offer frozen dog or cat broth as a cooling treat
πŸ’§ Ensure fresh drinking water is always available

πŸ• Dog Walking Advice
Please avoid walking your dog during this hot weather. If they need to go outside for toileting, keep trips very brief and only go:
πŸŒ… Early in the morning
πŸŒ™ Late in the evening

Remember: if the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 5 seconds, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

πŸ₯ We are open as usual throughout this period of hot weather. If you are concerned about your pet, or if they show any signs of heatstroke, please contact Chelsea Veterinary Surgery immediately. Early intervention can save lives.

Please share this post to help keep pets safe during the heatwave. ❀️🐾

🐾 Meet Luna! 🐾

Sweet Luna recently visited Chelsea Veterinary Surgery for a consultation after experiencing some ear irritation. Our team gave her a thorough examination to help identify the cause of her discomfort and discuss the best treatment options to get those ears feeling comfortable again.

Ear irritation can be caused by a variety of factors, including allergies, infections, or foreign bodies, so it's always important to have any signs of scratching, head shaking, or redness checked by your vet.

We hope you're feeling much better soon, Luna! ❀️🐢
