Gorgeous Cleo came in today for her regular blood test, and was such a superstar! ✨️

She takes anti-inflammatory pain relief for her arthritis, and regular blood tests allow us to monitor the effects of her meds on important organs like her liver and kidneys 💊

We always recommend blood tests for our lovely patients that are on long-term medications, so that we can make sure everything is in tip-top condition.

Always lovely to see you, Cleo 🥰

Watch out, Taz is about! 👀

The team at Wheatley met tiny Taz last week for her first ever vet visit and to start her kitten vaccine course 🩺

Kittens are full of energy and Taz is no exception - she may be small but this gorgeous tabby bengal kitten is absolutely fearless! 💪

Vaccinations are important at any age, but especially for kittens, as they give them the best chance against serious diseases like feline leukaemia virus (FeLV), cat flu, and feline parvovirus.

Now Taz and her owner can focus on discovering valuable kitten skills such as playing, snoozing and hunting practice! We can't wait to see how much Taz has grown at her next appointment 🥰

Maisie popped in to the Wheatley branch last week for her 2nd restart vaccination. Doesn't she seem happy to see us? 😆

It was also her 10th birthday, what a privilege it was for us to celebrate this milestone with her! 🎉

Maisie is a retired guide dog who comes in for regular check-ups and bloodwork to see how she's getting on after battling cancer a few years ago. Staying up to date with annual vaccines is a great way to keep her immune system strong. If your pet's boosters have lapsed, we can do a restart course and get them back on track! 🐾

She was a star for her injection and got extra birthday treats and fuss from the vet and nurse on duty.

Against all expectations, it is going to be a hot Bank Holiday weekend!

Which is wonderful, but we aren’t used to it and neither are our dogs.

So before you head out on a lovely family walk, please remember these few things;

🐶 Our flat faced and heavy coated breeds are the most vulnerable when it comes to overheating. So if you own one of these breeds please take extra care and maybe stay at home and in the cool.

🐶 If you do go out aim for a cooler part of the day, take water and plan for regular breaks in the shade.

🐶 Do not force your dog to exercise with ball play or treats. If we throw something or play with them, they will keep going. They will run beyond what is comfortable for them to please us and have very little sense of self-preservation. It's our job to know what a sensible and safe level of activity is!

🐶 Learn the early signs of heat stress, which are; excessive panting and not being able to stop and them slowing down or stopping on walks or when they are playing rather than keeping on going.

🐶 Ice treats and ice water are fine to give your pets! They are not harmful and will be very helpful, especially the cold water, if they start to get too warm.

I hope you and your pets have a lovely break!

🐝 Happy National Bee Day 🐝

Today we’re proud to celebrate the incredible work of the British Beekeepers Association and the vital role bees play in protecting our environment 💛

Bees are responsible for pollinating many of the plants, flowers, fruits, and crops we rely on every day. Their work supports biodiversity, food production, and healthy ecosystems across the UK and beyond 🌼

The British Beekeepers Association helps to support bee conservation, educate communities, and promote the importance of protecting pollinators for future generations 🐝✨

As veterinary professionals, we also see the occasional downside of curious pets getting a little too close to our buzzing friends! Bee stings are common during the warmer months, especially around paws, noses, and mouths.

If your pet experiences swelling, discomfort, drooling, or facial swelling after a sting, contact your vet for advice.

Today is all about appreciating and protecting these tiny creatures with a huge impact on our world 🌍💛

Little miss Maggie visited us at the Wheatley branch for her 1st vaccination last week! 💉

She was an absolute star and climbed her owner after gobbling up all of her treats 🥰 What a little acrobat! 🤸‍♀️ We'll be seeing her again in a few weeks time for her next course.

Vaccines help protect our pets from infectious diseases and viruses, whilst also boosting their immune system to protect them on their little adventures!

Have your kitties had their vaccines recently? We'd love to see them so drop some pics in the comments below! 🐱🐈🐈‍⬛

How cute is 4 month old whippet puppy, Oolong? 🥹 Here he is getting lots of fuss from our fab Receptionist, Alice.

Oolong came in last week for a flea and worming check, as well as a nail clip!

Staying up to date with regular flea and worm treatments is the best way to make sure your pets aren't at risk at catching any crawling critters or wriggly worms 🪲🪱

As it was his first ever nail clip, our nurse showed his owners how to safely trim his pointy puppy claws, with lots of praise and breaks to increase his confidence. This is a great way to get puppies like Oolong used to being handled at the vets. He was very brave and loved all the extra cuddles! 🥰

This week's Braveheart award goes to 5 year-old Golden Retriever Mia 💜

Poor Mia came in to us a few weeks ago when her owners noticed she was lethargic, losing interest in her food, and being sick after eating. She was also passing blood from her v***a, outside of her normal season.

On exam, the vet Tania found that she had a bloated abdomen, was also passing pus along with the blood, and had a temperature of 40°C, which are all big red flags. 😱 🚩

Once we had done an ultrasound scan, Tania was able to confirm Mia had an open pyometra - a nasty infection of the uterus that spreads pus into the rest of the abdomen and can be very serious if not treated.

Mia then had emergency spay surgery to remove her uterus, which was filled with pus. Afterwards, her big belly was half the size!

Here she is at her final post op check with our student nurse Abby-Leigh yesterday, which she passed with flying colours! 👏

Well done to Mia, and her owners, for making a full recovery 😊
