*** REMINDER ***

Just a reminder, following our announcement before the weekend, that the organised walk tomorrow has been postponed due to the high forecast temperatures.

We will be welcoming volunteer walkers from 7:30am, so we can give all our hounds the opportunity to stretch their legs before the day warms up. Tina will be coordinating in the morning, so please ask for her on arrival.

We hope that you all enjoy the warm weather, but please keep your greyhounds safe by avoiding exercise during the warmer parts of the day.

John and I have been watching the weather forecast carefully, and it is with regret that we have made the decision to postpone Judith's Memorial Walk on Monday.

We thought about arranging an alternative event in the field, but sadly feel that the unseasonably warm temperatures will be too much of a risk for our beloved greyhounds.

That said, if anyone is available to help us walk our kennel dogs on Monday morning, from 7:30am onwards, it would be greatly appreciated. Ideally, we'll get them all out to stretch their legs before it gets too hot.

Apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.

🩷JUDITH'S MEMORIAL WALK - MONDAY 25th MAY, 2026🩷

The Late Spring Bank Holiday is when we come together to remember Judith. To celebrate her life and the huge impact she had on the lives of so many greyhounds and their humans.

What better way to honour her memory than a wonderful gathering of greyhounds at Crossing Cottage - her home of so many years, the place where she worked tirelessly to find them their forever homes?

Please arrive from 10:30, to walk at 11:00. Refreshments will be available after the walk.

If you would like one of our lovely kennel hounds to accompany you on the walk, please message the page. Please note that priority will be given to potential adopters and that the number of greyhounds at the kennels and available to walk is subject to change.

❤️ MARLENE IS SETTLING INTO HER FOSTER HOME ❤️

*** URGENT ***

We are looking for a foster, or preferably forever, home for an older greyhound who has come back into our care and is struggling in the kennel environment.

Poor Marlene's story is a sad one - she was originally homed by us back at the beginning of 2022. She was a much loved little girl, but after almost 2 years in her home we had to find her a new home as her owners' circumstances had changed.

At the end of 2023 she went to what we thought would be her forever home but unfortunately it wasn't to be, and earlier this month she was again returned to us.

Marlene is confused to be back in the kennel environment and has sadly started self-harming, chewing the skin from the bottom of her feet.

We are therefore urgently looking to find her an appropriate temporary or permanent home so we can move her out of our kennels.

Marlene is 9.5 years old but behaves like a much younger dog, enjoying playing and zoomies around our paddock.

She is wonderful with adults, being affectionate and loving. She is, however, uncomfortable around children. Marlene can show some signs of reactivity towards some other dogs (both greyhounds and other breeds), so we would be looking to place her as an only pet in a home with no visiting dogs..

If your home could be the quiet, safe haven that this little greyhound so desperately needs please message our page and we will get back to you.

Marlene does need some dental work, so potential owners/foster carers must be able to transport her either to us or to our vets for this to be completed.

The tears were flowing at Crossing Cottage this morning!

After 546 days in our care, our beloved big boy - Jumbo - found his forever home with Karen and Dave.

It was a bittersweet occasion - Jumbo's rehoming was preceded by the tragically premature passing last week of another of our Crossing Cottage favourites - Herman 💔

Our heartfelt thanks go to Karen and Dave, both for the love and care that they gave to Herman and for finding space in their broken hearts and their home for another big, black boy; giving him his much deserved chance at happiness.

🐾🐾 APRIL GREYHOUND WALK 🐾🐾

Our next monthly walk will be on Sunday 26th April at Brierley Forest Park, Skegby Road, Huthwaite, NG17 2PL. The car park is on the left at the bottom of Skegby Road.

We will start off at 10.30 for a c.50 minutes walk finishing at the cafe for refreshments.

Some parts of the paths are narrow so please be aware of other park users and allow enough space .

There are also a couple of places where the paths diverge, so if you are near the front please take it steady and those further back keep in sight of those ahead of you. There are no search parties on standby if you take the wrong path!

As usual dogs MUST be kept on a short lead at all times and if you have a reactive, unpredictable or newly-homed hound please use a muzzle.

We will have greyhound coats and collars for sale. Cash is easier in case we can't get a signal for the card machine. Please see the Volunteer Team on the day.

Sadly, Coco and I will be unable to attend as I again have a shift at the kennels.

Have fun!
