๐Ÿข A young tortoise arrived at our practice after an accident that caused a shell fracture and infection.

After carefully treating the infection, we were able to restore her shell and support her healing journey. A tortoiseโ€™s shell is a living structure with a unique anatomy, making proper veterinary care essential after any trauma.

๐Ÿ’š Our little friend is now recovering well and getting stronger every day.

๐Ÿ” Nutmegโ€™s respiratory emergency

Nutmeg came to us after suddenly developing significant breathing difficulties, following similar respiratory signs in another hen from the same flock.

On arrival, she had marked respiratory effort, noisy/wheezy breathing, crackles, and signs of distress. Respiratory disease in birds can progress quickly, so she was admitted for oxygen therapy, medication, close monitoring, and supportive care.

Thankfully, Nutmeg responded very well. Her breathing settled, the wheezing improved, and once she remained stable off oxygen, she was able to continue her recovery at home with medication, nebulisation, and careful monitoring.

Chickens and other birds can hide illness until they are quite unwell. Sneezing, coughing, blocked nostrils, runny eyes, open-mouth breathing, wheezing, or increased respiratory effort should always be taken seriously.

At V for Vets, we provide dedicated care for all species, including chickens, rabbits, reptiles, small mammals, exotic pets, cats and dogs.

๐ŸฆŽ Bearded Dragon Care

One of the UKโ€™s most popular pet reptiles, and definitely one of the most charismatic! This beautiful Bearded Dragon visited us for a routine health check and quickly became a favourite with the team.

๐Ÿ’กDid you know?
- Bearded Dragons commonly live 8โ€“15 years, so theyโ€™re a long-term commitment.
- They need the correct UVB lighting, heating gradients, and humidity levels to stay healthy and active.
- Their diet should include a balance of live insects, leafy greens, and appropriate supplements.
- Many Bearded Dragons go through brumation, a natural period of reduced activity and appetite during cooler months.
- Regular exotic pet health checks can help detect early signs of common problems such as metabolic bone disease, parasites, obesity, and shedding issues.

Have questions about reptile or exotic pet care? Our team is always happy to help.

๐Ÿ Over 30 years old and still going strong

Meet Squeeze, a beautiful Royal Python who came to see us after going off food for 6 weeks.

Thankfully, her clinical examination was reassuring and she looked healthy, bright, and in great condition for her age. Reduced appetite in reptiles can sometimes be linked to seasonal, hormonal, behavioural, or husbandry-related factors.

Squeeze received supportive care, and we discussed small husbandry adjustments at home to help encourage her appetite.

Regular check-ups are especially important for exotic pets, as they can be very good at hiding signs of illness.

๐Ÿฑ Cat castration is a great choice for your furry friend

Castration helps reduce unwanted behaviors like spraying and roaming, while also lowering the risk of certain health issues.

A calmer, healthier, and happier cat? Yes, please!๐Ÿคญ

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Even better: with our Pet Healthcare Plan, you get 10% off the procedure AND a free microchip, which we often place at the same time. Microchipping is also required by law, so itโ€™s a win-win!

๐ŸฆŽ A tiny patient with a big lesson

This chameleon was brought to our clinic with Dysecdysis, a condition where the skin doesnโ€™t shed properly. When this happens repeatedly, it can lead to inflammation, infections, and even affect sensitive areas like the eyes. After careful cleaning and treatment, the eye improved significantly and our little friend is on the road to recovery.

Chameleons are highly sensitive reptiles that depend on proper humidity, UVB exposure, and precise environmental conditions to stay healthy. At our clinic, we care for all animals, no matter how small or exotic, giving each patient the attention and expertise they need.

๐Ÿญ Small pets, big personalities

From clever rats to energetic gerbils, every tiny patient has its own charm!

๐Ÿ’› Rats are highly intelligent, affectionate, and can even learn tricks and recognise their humans. They love companionship and form strong bonds.
๐Ÿ’› Gerbils, on the other hand, are curious little diggers, full of energy, always exploring, and happiest in pairs or small groups with lots of enrichment.

ฮ‘t V for Vets, we treat every patient as unique, because regular check-ups are the key to a healthy, happy life for all our small furry friends.
