If you have a new puppy or kitten in the house, you have a tiny explorer full of curiosity who will want to explore every corner of their new home.

Here’s a useful checklist to avoid emergency vet visits:

✅ Hide, cover or unplug cords and chargers.

✅ Everything that can be swallowed, think coins, kid toys, hair ties or socks, needs to be picked up and stored away.

✅ Make sure you don’t have any toxic plants at home or in your garden if you have an outdoor pet.

✅ Keep toxic foods, such as chocolate, grapes/raisins, xylitol gum, onions/garlic, out of reach.

✅ Keep medications and supplements stored in closed cabinets.

✅ Lock away any cleaning products.

✅ Use a lidded bin for trash and recycling.

✅ Secure any windows and balconies to make sure your pet can’t climb and fall.

✅ Keep your washing machine door closed at all times, since kittens love to climb into those.

Imagine your pet could jump online and leave you a review. ✍️

Would they rave about the cuddles, complain about the late dinners, or mention that one time you went to work without saying goodbye? 👀

If your pet could rate you as their human, how many stars would you get, and why? 💫

Lyme Disease Awareness Month is a great reminder of how important tick prevention is for our pets. 🐶

Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that can affect dogs and that can cause serious health problems if left untreated. As the weather gets warmer and we spend more time outdoors, it’s a good time to stay extra vigilant after walks in grassy, wooded or rural areas.

Checking your pet regularly for ticks and keeping up to date with parasite prevention can make a big difference in helping to protect them.

If you ever find a tick on your pet or notice anything unusual, our team is here to help.

Found a new lump on your pet? 🤔

Don’t panic, but don’t ignore it either. Although many are absolutely harmless, some are not. A veterinary evaluation is needed to make a proper diagnosis, so please get in touch with us to book an appointment.

Burn accidents can happen with pets, just like with humans. 🔥 But, if your pet gets burned, do you know what to do? 🤔

Here’s our advice:

👉 Stay calm and remove the heat source immediately

👉 Cool the area with running tepid water for about 20 minutes

👉 Cover with cling film, but don’t wrap it tightly

👉 Call us for advice or come straight to the practice

Accidents are the reason why having a first aid kit is so important. If you don’t have one, get started.
