⭐️ Baby Birds/ Fledglings ⭐️

Seeing baby birds on their own is perfectly normal, so there’s no need to be worried. These fledglings are doing exactly what nature intended, and have left the nest deliberately a short while before they are able to fly.

Some reasons for the birds being alone;

🐣 Parents could be away getting food

🐣 Parents could be scared away from the fledgling because of human interaction

🐣 The parents could be out of sight to us, but watching from somewhere near by

Have a look at the flow chart below to help decide what to do if you come across a baby bird 😊

☀️ HEAT STROKE ☀️

We are repeating this important message again because the weather is warming up!

⚠️ 15 minutes is all it takes for a dog to die from heatstroke, it is a very serious issue, so it is important that owners are aware of the signs ⚠️

Symptoms include;

▪️Heavy panting
▪️Excessive drooling
▪️Red/purple gums and tongue
▪️Vomiting
▪️Glassy eyes/fearful expression
▪️Racing heart
▪️Collapse/staggering
▪️Seizures

Heat stroke occurs most commonly to dogs with a history of exercising on a warm day, being left in a car/conservatory/caravan on warm days, and those left out in the sun with limited/no access to shade and water.

What do I do if I suspect heatstroke?

💦 WET THEN VET! 🩺

✅ Move your dog to a shaded area
✅ Immediately douse the dog with cool (not cold) water, to avoid shock. If possible, you can also use wet towels or place him/her in the breeze of a fan.
✅ Allow your dog to sip cool (but not freezing) water
✅ Take your dog to your vet urgently. This is an emergency situation, so do not delay seeking veterinary treatment. Phone ahead so treatment can begin as soon as you arrive at the clinic

❗️ In an out of hours emergency, call the normal number 02891812226 and listen to the options to speak to a vet ❗️

⭐️ Head Nurse Asli ⭐️

Please give a big JVC welcome to our new Head Nurse Asli Yavuz! 😊

Asli has been settling in over the last 3 months and has been doing a brilliant job of helping us develop our small animal team, and leading our wonderful nurses.

Asli has worked in the veterinary industry for 12 years and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse back in 2017. She has been working in veterinary management for 6 years now.

Since graduating, Asli has achieved 2 post graduate certificates in Surgical Nursing and Emergency & Critical Care.

Asli loves working with inpatients, making sure each patient is treated with gold standard care. She also has a keen interest in anaesthesia for non-routine surgical procedures.

Outside of work, Asli keeps herself busy walking her lovely cocker spaniel Phoebe, and caring for her two horses Diego and Bill.

We are delighted to have Asli with us and wish her all the best in her new role 🥰
