🐱✨ How to Settle in a New Cat ✨🐱

Bringing home a new cat is an exciting time, but it’s important to remember that cats are creatures of habit 🏡
Any change to their routine can cause stress and anxiety, so patience is key 💙

🐾 Decompression Stage
The first few days can feel overwhelming for your new cat and this stage can last up to 3 days.

You may notice your cat:
• Hiding under furniture
• Eating very little
• Avoiding interaction
• Appearing nervous or withdrawn

The best thing you can do is give them space ✨

✔️ Keep them in one quiet, safe room
✔️ Keep noise levels low
✔️ Avoid too many visitors
✔️ Let them approach you in their own time

🐾 Adjustment Stage
As your cat begins to settle, they’ll slowly grow in confidence and start learning their new routine 🥰

You may notice:
• More curiosity around the house
• Increased interaction
• Recognition of feeding times
• Their personality beginning to shine through ✨

🐾 Feeling at Home
After around 3 months, most cats feel much more secure and relaxed in their new environment 🏡💙

Their stress levels should reduce significantly as they realise this is now their permanent home. Trust and bonding will become stronger, and their true character will fully emerge 🐾

Remember — every cat settles differently, so go at their pace 💙

☀️🐾 Rex’s Top Tips for Keeping Cool This Weekend 🐾☀️

With the warmer weather here, make sure your furry friends stay safe in the heat 💛

🐶 Never leave pets in cars, conservatories or poorly ventilated rooms — even for a few minutes.

🌅 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

💦 Always provide plenty of fresh water and shaded spots to rest.

🔥 Hot pavements & artificial grass can burn paws! Test surfaces with the back of your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

🧊 Cooling mats, damp towels and paddling pools are great ways to help pets stay comfortable.

😴 Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day.

⚠️ Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke:
Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, wobbliness or collapse.

If you’re concerned about your pet, call us on 📞 01565 632253 — you’ll automatically be redirected to our out-of-hours service if needed.

Stay safe & keep those tails wagging this weekend 🐕☀️

✨ Meet the Team Friday ✨

Every Friday, we’ll be introducing you to one of the amazing members of our team so you can get to know us a little better 🐾

First up is our RVN, Cerys 💙

Cerys is our temporary Head Registered Veterinary Nurse and qualified as an RVN in 2023 after working with Willows Vet Group since 2021. She joined Holly House Vets in October 2025.

Her main clinical interest is diabetes care, and she also loves teaching nursing students and Animal Care Assistants in her role as a clinical coach 👩‍⚕️📚

When she’s not at the practice, Cerys enjoys baking, reading, gaming, and renovating her new home 🧁📖🎮🏡

Fun fact: Cerys has a particular love for tapirs… although unfortunately we can’t treat tapirs at Holly House… yet 👀🦛

Bella recently underwent a procedure to remove a wart from her back. Unfortunately, the wart had been causing her significant discomfort, as it was frequently catching and bleeding 🪡

Check out the pictures of the entire process.

Bella has recovered amazingly well. Not bad for 17 years old!
