🧡 Meet Nancy 🧡

Nancy is 6 years old and is a very sweet and curious girl who always likes to know what you’re up to, but she’s also quite wary and likes to take her time getting to know new people.

Nancy arrived at The Ark around four years ago after being rescued in quite a poor condition with her three-week-old foal, Frank. She was underweight, frightened and had put everything she had into raising her baby. At the time, she was even suspected to be back in foal again, making her situation even more worrying.

Thankfully Nancy was not in foal again and her life looks very different now. Frank has grown into a healthy young pony, and Nancy has regained her health and weight ☺️

She still finds handling a little overwhelming, and catching her in a headcollar isn’t always easy. We take everything at Nancy’s pace, helping to build her confidence and show her that we can be trusted. Every small step forward is a big achievement, and we’re so proud of how far she’s come.

These days, Nancy is the head of her own little herd alongside Sunny D, Annie and Java. Despite everything she’s been through, she’s grown into a lovely mare with a quiet confidence!

If you’d like to support Nancy, you can sponsor her or make a donation towards her ongoing care via the bank details, sponsorship form or with the PayPal link in the comments 🧡

🤍 Meet Bounty 🤍

Bounty is 24 years old and is a miniature horse.

She’s a quiet girl who likes to take her time getting to know people. As Bounty is partially sighted, she can be a little nervous but once she knows you, she loves a good groom, and will happily turn round for a fuss and some kisses 💋she is always keen to see if you’ve brought any treats!

Like all ponies, Bounty has a cheeky side too. She isn’t always impressed when it’s time to have her feet picked out or a bath, and she will make you chase her as soon as she realises what you’re going to do 😂 not that she’s hard to catch up to with her little legs!

When Bounty arrived with us, she had suffered from laminitis and was diagnosed with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS), meaning her diet has to be carefully managed by reducing her sugar intake. She also has uveitis, so you’ll usually see her wearing a UV fly mask to help protect her eyes.

Out in the field, Bounty tends to keep herself to herself. She’s not one for being in the middle of the herd and can sometimes be pushed around by the more confident horses. Luckily, she has a special friend in Pie, who she always seems to gravitate towards 🤍

If you’d like to help us continue giving Bounty and the rest of our rescued horses the care they deserve, you can sponsor one of our horses or use these details 🫶🏻

🐐 Greta Update 💚

A few days ago, Greta was diagnosed with pneumonia and peritonitis, and we were all very worried. She was struggling to breathe and just wasn’t herself.

The good news is that she’s already showing signs of improvement! 🥰 Thanks to medication, daily injections and lots of TLC, she’s much brighter today and has been enjoying plenty of fuss and attention.

She still has a way to go, but we’re so pleased with how she’s responding to treatment and we’re keeping everything crossed that she continues to improve.

A huge thank you to Hill and Phelan Equine and Farm Vets, and especially James Phelen, for the care, treatment and support they’ve given Greta. We’re incredibly grateful for everything you’ve done to help get our girl back on the road to recovery 💚

🖤 Meet Meredith 🖤

⚠️ This is also an appeal for support. Please take a moment to read Meredith’s story.

Meredith has been part of The Ark family since the day she was born. When we rescued her mum, Moe, from Wales, we were informed she was pregnant at 26 years old. A few months later, Meredith arrived, and she’s been with us ever since. Now just 5 years old, she’s already facing significant health issues.

Anyone who knows Meredith will tell you what a sweetheart she is. She loves a fuss, is always curious about what you’re doing, and has the gentlest nature. She really is one of those horses that becomes everyone’s favourite. And as you can see she is absolutely beautiful!

Sadly, Meredith has Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS), which has caused severe laminitis and pedal bone rotation. Despite months of careful management and following every piece of veterinary advice, her latest X-rays have shown the rotation has worsened, along with significant inflammation within her hoof.

Meredith is now on strict box rest, a carefully managed diet, daily medication, ongoing veterinary treatment, regular farrier care and repeat X-rays. Recovery won’t happen overnight, but we’re doing everything we possibly can to give her the best chance.

The coming weeks and months will be crucial for Meredith. Her future depends on how she responds to treatment, and we’re doing everything we can to give this beautiful girl the best possible chance. If you’re able to support Meredith’s ongoing care, no matter how big or small the donation, you’ll be helping us continue her treatment and fight for her future 🖤

Thank you for supporting Meredith and helping us give her every chance she deserves 🖤🐴
