🧡 Sunny D Update 🧡

Yesterday, Sunny D was sedated to allow the dentist to carry out a full examination of her teeth.

The good news is that no significant dental problems were found and she only required a routine rasp. Following her examination, both the vet and dentist noted that her jaw appears to be slightly tight. Due to Sunny D’s limited vision, it is possible that she may have bumped into something and caused some minor trauma to the area.

As Sunny D has already been showing signs of improvement, the decision was made not to carry out any X-rays at this stage. She will continue on Bute for a few more days and will be closely monitored to see how she progresses.

The total cost of Sunny D’s veterinary and dental treatment was £432.32.

As a charity, any donations towards Sunny D’s care would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to contribute, our donation details can be found below.

Thank you for your continued support. 🐴🧡

🧡 Meet Sunny D 🧡

Sunny D is 5 years old and she is known for being a cheeky, curious mare who loves attention. She enjoys a good scratch, likes to know what everyone is up to and is often found following staff around. She gets on well with the other horses and, considering the start of her life was rather tough, she has grown into a confident pony with plenty of personality.

Sunny arrived at The Ark Rescue as a young foal alongside her mum after they were rescued from the Welsh mountains. When she first arrived, it was suspected that Sunny D may have been completely blind.

After being seen by a vet and having further investigations, it was revealed that Sunny D was sadly blind in one eye and had a cataract in the other. The Ark arranged for her to have surgery to remove the cataract to help restore some of her vision.

Although her eyesight will never be perfect and she will forever be known for being slightly clumsy, she has her coping mechanisms. Sunny D is always seen tilting her head to be able to see better, she responds well to people talking to her and she shows a lot of trust and confidence in the people and horses around her. She has adapted incredibly well.

Sunny D has had a visit from the vet and dentist today regarding some spotted signs that she may be uncomfortable with her mouth. An update about this will be posted by tomorrow.

We’re looking forward to sharing more about Sunny D with you. 🐴

🐴 We’re Rebooting The Ark’s Rescue Centre and Retirement Home Equine Page! 🐴

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing you to all of the horses and ponies in our care, sharing their stories, personalities and journeys.

We’ll also be sharing updates on veterinary treatments and everything else that goes into caring for our horses.

Many people don’t realise just how much goes into caring for rescue horses. Feed, hay, straw, bedding, routine healthcare and veterinary treatment all come at a cost, so this page will also be used to share fundraising appeals and ways you can support the horses when extra help is needed.

Some of our residents may be looking for their forever homes, while others will remain at The Ark due to ongoing health or welfare needs. Any horses available for adoption will be clearly highlighted on their posts.

If you’d like to support our equine residents, donations are always gratefully received and equine-related items can be donated at The Ark reception.

Please like, follow and share our page so we can reach as many people as possible and give our horses the recognition they deserve.

Keep an eye out for our horse introductions coming soon! ❤️🐴

It was a busy week here at Ark Equine last week, saying goodbye to our beautiful Clemmie, Cassie and our beloved donkeys, Vera and Morse. We always have mixed emotions when rehoming, as we love them all like they’re our own, but it’s so lovely to see them going off to 1-1 homes where they can get all the attention they deserve. Wishing them and their new owners all the best of luck. This makes our job so worth while seeing the happy endings ❤️ we will miss them all but can’t wait for updates from their new families 🥰
