See a feline upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in action here. A safe, and mostly diagnostic procedure, helping our pets with gastrointestinal symptoms feel better with minimal risk. Getting clear answers for our pet parents is what we do best. ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿฅ

*Warning graphic images* Scale, polish, extract, repeat. Here we show an insight into how we perform dental cleaning, and an open extraction technique for damaged teeth. Casca had two premolars with root exposure that needed management. Surgical extractions like this reduce the risk of root fracture and root retention during removal. ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿฆท ๐Ÿ˜€

At Whisker & Woof, we really do everything we can to make your pet feel as comfortable and happy as possible. Little Dorothy is coming up to her 19th Birthday, and she needs regular pain-relieving injections for her osteoarthritis. We started to notice a gradual loss of weight over many months. It was agreed to arrange some blood work, and an abdominal ultrasound under a light sedation. We have diagnosed some form of intestinal disease, which appears moderately thickened on her ultrasound, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Dorothy is now on treatment for this, and we look forward to seeing how she responds over the coming weeks! Remember there is always a way forward, thereโ€™s always a way to make our pets feel better. ๐Ÿˆ ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿฉป

Pre-operative assessment is key for safe anaesthetic outcomes. Little Olaf came into see us for his neuter, during his exam we discovered his heart rate was only 112 bpm. Most cats in the exam room would have a heart rate around 180. We discussed options with his owners and it was decided to perform an ecg, a pre-op blood profile, and a specific biomarker for the heart, feline Pro-BNP. This point-of-care test can be run in as little as 10 minutes. Fortunately, his tests came back clear, and we were able to proceed with careful monitoring. we always give the very best care to our patients. Well done Olaf! โ˜ƒ๏ธ ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ†

Itโ€™s Sinthuyaaโ€™s last day today as veterinary receptionist here at Whisker & Woof! She has been a hugely valuable member of the team, bringing her warmth and kindness to our clients and their pets, but also using her exceptional organisational and communication skills to make sure we are able to provide a friendly and seamless customer service experience. We are devastated to see her go, but do wish her all the very best in her new role! Good luck Sinthuyaa! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

We seemingly have more and more canine patients presenting with anxiety to the practice. The vast majority of them have an underlying medical issue, most commonly gastrointestinal or orthopaedic disease. Further investigations, always provide insight and clarification, allowing definitive treatment to start as soon as possible. ๐Ÿถ ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Marley was really poorly with a blocked urethra, a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate intervention. After diagnosing bladder stones as the cause, the obstruction was flushed back into the bladder. The owners were given the option to surgically remove the stones, or try medical dissolution with a low mineral prescription diet. Both options have their benefits and risks, his owners elected to try dietary management. At 8 week follow-up, the stones and sediment had disappeared, and we are hopeful, with careful monitoring, that Marley should have a good, long term outcome. ๐Ÿถ ๐Ÿชจ ๐Ÿ”ฌ

Simpkin was in the clinic recently to have further assessment of a recently diagnosed heart murmur. Whilst we all worry about how stressed our pets maybe during diagnostics or hospitalisation, he didnโ€™t seem to mind too much! We provide a small dose of op**te to help our feline patients relax during our echocardiography exams and to maximise the quality of the ultrasound images. ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿ˜ด ๐Ÿฅ‡

Urethral plug in a cat. Urethral plugs are a common cause of urinary tract obstruction in male cats, requiring life-saving intervention to relieve the blockage. Feline stress and urinary crystals are involved in the formation of urethral plugs, which are often secondary to inflammation. Management centres around preventing recurrence, with prescription urinary diets and supplements or medications to reduce stress. ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿ”Œ ๐Ÿ™ƒ
