*Warning graphic images* Toby helped himself to 250g of milk chocolate this morning! Chocolate, containing theobromine, is toxic to dogs, so we had to induce vomiting to evacuate his stomach. Follow-up includes a course of activated charcoal to bind any remaining theobromine in the digestive tract. The majority of patients present early and, with treatment, don’t develop any symptoms. 🍫 🐶 😮

Pulpitis, inflammation of the vital part of the tooth, is a common presenting complaint in veterinary practice. Teeth appear pink or grey in colour and the majority of the time need extraction. These teeth are painful for the pet and intervention is required. 🦷 😩 🩸

Crystalline stromal dystrophy is an inherited eye condition in dogs, whereby lipid or cholesterol crystals form in the corneal stroma. Commonly affected breeds include Rough Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Some patients have an underlying disorder of fat metabolism. It is usually painless, slowly progressive, and rarely affects vision. 🐶 👁️ 😃

*Warning graphic images* Poor Little Muffin presented to us this morning having self-mutilated her tongue and lips. This distressing medical disorder is feline orofacial pain syndrome, a neuropathic pain disorder seen most commonly in Burmese cats. Triggers include dental procedures and stress. In this four month-old patient, imminent eruption of permanent teeth would be the most likely cause. Management includes soothing pain-relief and antibiotics, along with a short stay in an Elizabethan collar. Get well soon Muffin! 🦷 🐱 💊

First grass seed of the season! An incidental finding in a canine patient bought in for another presenting complaint. It’s always a good idea to perform a thorough physical exam whenever possible. 🐶 👂🏼 🤕
