“Foxtails” 🌾 are particularly troublesome because their tiny barbs can allow them to work their way into a pet’s skin, ears, eyes, nose or paws, rather than simply falling out.

They’re most commonly a problem during the warmer, drier months, when grasses have gone to seed. ☀️

After walks, particularly walks through long grass, we advise owners to check:

* Between the toes and paw pads – one of the most common locations
* Inside the ears – especially in dogs with floppy or hairy ears
* Around the eyes
* Under the eyelids
* Around the mouth
* Under the collar
* Armpits and groin
* Coat and skin, particularly in long-haired dogs

Please take care after walks and check your dog regularly. If you notice any signs of irritation or discomfort, contact us before the problem gets worse.🐾

This lovely dog has been brought into our vets after being found wandering in the road in Knodishall around 4pm this afternoon. Please share so we can help find their owner as quickly as possible 🐾
