If your dog is overexcited, overaroused, or reactive…
more movement isn’t always the answer.

Because reactivity is usually: šŸ‘‰ go, go, go, go, go

So instead of adding more stimulation…
we need to teach the opposite.

Try this šŸ‘‡

Find a quiet spot at the park, away from triggers, and just… sit.
No walking.
No constant movement.
No pressure.

Let your dog start to:
• Switch off
• Observe the environment
• Learn that nothing is happening

When they:
āœ” Stay calm
āœ” Look at something and don’t react
āœ” Choose to settle
šŸ‘‰ Mark and reward it.

That’s how you start building calm behaviour in real environments — not just at home.
Most people skip this… and that’s why their dog never learns to relax outside.

If you want a step-by-step plan to fix reactivity properly, we cover this in depth inside our academy 🐾
Including our full reactivity course, plus guidance as you train.

This might sound harsh but with rescue centres overflowing with unwanted dogs, I think it needs to be said!

26/04/2026

Owning a dachshund is like… negotiating with a toddler who’s already made their mind up šŸ˜…šŸ¾

They’re stubborn.
They’re opinionated.
And sometimes it feels like they’ve just decided… ā€œno thanks.ā€

But here’s the truth šŸ‘‡
They’re not untrainable — they just need the right structure, clarity, and consistency.

When you:
• Give them clear boundaries
• Meet their needs properly
• Show them what to do (not just what not to do)

They can be some of the best dogs to live with.
Most people struggle because they’re guessing…
Not because their dog can’t learn.

That’s exactly what we fix inside our academy 🐾
Step-by-step training, real-life guidance, and support as you go — so you’re not trying to figure it all out alone.

Workmen turning up = chaos for most dogs… but here’s what’s actually going on šŸ‘‡

It’s not just ā€œsomeone outsideā€.
To your dog, it’s:
• Strong, unfamiliar smells (tools, materials, different people)
• Sudden, unpredictable noises (doors, metal, drilling, van doors)
• Constant movement in and out of their space
• A complete break in their normal routine

That combination = instant overstimulation.

So you’ll often see:
šŸ‘‰ Barking at the window
šŸ‘‰ Running room to room
šŸ‘‰ Not listening
šŸ‘‰ Struggling to switch off

It’s not stubbornness — it’s a dog that doesn’t know how to handle the situation.
Most people try to ā€œstop the barkingā€ā€¦

But what actually works is:
āœ” Lowering arousal
āœ” Giving clear direction
āœ” Teaching an alternative behaviour (like going to a bed)

That’s how you get this šŸ‘† calm, neutral response.

We’re going deeper into this inside our 6-week barking at guests course in the academy 🐾
(Starting Monday 27th — you can still join)
Step-by-step, real-life training — not just tips, check out our previous post with more info about the course.

If your dog barks, jumps, or completely loses it when guests come over… this is for you.

This isn’t just ā€œbad behaviourā€ — it’s usually:
• Overexcitement
• Uncertainty
• And not knowing what to do instead

So telling them ā€œnoā€ doesn’t fix it.

That’s exactly why we’ve created a 6-week trainer-led course inside our academy, focused on barking at guests ! This course is completely free to join in for all academy members šŸ’Ŗ

Over 6 weeks, we’ll guide you step-by-step through:
• Building calmness at home
• Teaching your dog where to go and what to do
• Handling doorbells, knocks, and real guests
• Turning chaos into calm, predictable behaviour

Each week you’ll get:
āœ” A clear training plan
āœ” Which videos to watch
āœ” Extra tips to apply in real life
āœ” Support as you go via the community page

šŸ“… Starts Monday 27th April
If you’re tired of dreading people coming over… it’s time to fix it properly.

Sniffing is a huge part of your dogs life, but unfortunately most dogs just don't get the opportunity to exercise it as much as they would like.

Try encouraging your dog to do just 10 minutes of guided sniffing each day for a week and let us know the changes you see 😊
